What is Positive Actions for Student Success (PASS)?
Positive Actions for Student Success (PASS) is a valuable resource found in many intermediate and high schools, aimed at aiding students who may be encountering challenges in fully engaging with their education. Student Success Teachers (SSTs) play a pivotal role in nurturing connections with students and fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. Within the school community, SSTs collaborate with other educators to provide essential support during crucial junctures in a student's educational journey.
SSTs also have a vital role in tailoring the learning environment to meet the specific needs of students, often extending support beyond the confines of the classroom. PASS programming is designed to help students re-engage in face-to-face learning, attain academic achievements, and navigate through complex life situations.
At the junior high level, PASS serves as a way to re-engage learners and to foster hope and efficacy. The overarching objective of all PASS programming is to enhance student engagement and foster success.Â
Students may access PASS through referrals from teachers, guidance counselors, or school administrators. Alternatively, students themselves may initiate contact with the Student Success Teacher, embarking on a journey toward greater educational achievement and personal growth.
How is a student selected for PASS?
Students requiring additional support are identified by their classroom teachers. These educators then make referrals to the Student Success Team, responsible for assessing the suitability of students for the PASS program and determining the most appropriate interventions based on each student's unique needs.
Upon acceptance into the PASS program, families are promptly informed about this supplementary support. The duration of a student's participation in the PASS program is contingent on their specific requirements and the progress they make. PASS serves as a crucial milestone in a child's academic journey, and, as a result, some students may benefit from an extended period of involvement in the program.
Building a strong school-family partnership
Crucial to a student's achievements within the PASS program is nurturing a strong alliance between the family and the school. We will ensure ongoing contact with families, using either email or phone calls, depending on your preferences.
