A reminder that variable weather (good for the capelin and whales) is here! Please monitor closely and dont put student hats and mittens away just yet! Sunscreen is still likely a requirement in the coming weeks, in particular on Sports Days. Creams and sprays may be difficult for students to apply independently, and the sprays should not be used indoors due to scents. We recommend sticks or roll- ons if possible so that students can apply independently as needed.
Thank you for signing up and for using this system. It saves so much time for Office personnel. This system will continue to be used next year for permission forms and collection of fees. If you have not yet created your account, you can do so here. We are here to assist if needed! Just drop by the office and we are happy to help.

June is a busy time, as we say good bye to the 2025-26 school year and celebrate all we have accomplished together. This month we will also celebrate Indigenous History Month and Pride Month.
Thank you for a school year full of wonderful memories and learning experiences!
Congratulations to all our students who participated in TrackFest this past weekend! Results for our school are posted here. We are grateful for our Coaches Bazeley and King, as well as Teachers Mme Daly and Ms. Parrell, and Ms. Shortall. Thank you for all you did to help our students be their best at this event!

This fun event will be held on June 5. Please note, in case of inclement weather, it will be held onthe alternate date of June 8. Please ensure students are prepared for the day with proper clothing for the weather and a water bottle, as well as sunscreen.
Ms. Shortall has been busy preparing and we know how much organization goes into making this a fun and memorable day for all. Thank you, Ms. Shortall! As in previous years, our Gr. 6 students get to be the leaders of the day and we thank them in advance for their help!
Next weekend, the Vanier Sea Stars will take to the local baseball fields in the Steve Phillips Classic. Thank you to Mr. Stephen Pope for coaching and preparing our students for the event.
Students who are moving to Grade 7 at MacDonald Drive Junior High, or other school within NLSchools, are required to complete a Chromebook Agreement. Chromebooks are distributed to all Grade 7 students in the province, as work is posted by teachers in Google Classroom and students can complete many projects electronically. This Chromebook Agreement Form has been made available to our Grade 6 students on Rycor, and must been completed by June 19th.
If your child(ren) will be going on a field trip this month, Rycor permission forms are in the process of being added to accounts. Please complete these when you can so that teachers do not need to contact home to confirm permissions. Thank you for your attention to this.
On June 16, our MHA Bernard Davis will host a barbecue for staff and students at Vanier. Students will be served lunch on that day. If your child has specific dietary requests, please let us know so that we can accommodate. We thank MHA Davis and his team for being with us.
We are waiting on a shipment of our new metal garden beds. We will require help to install these and prepare the garden for summer, and will be asking for assistance hopefully on their arrival in the coming weeks. Thank you for any help you can provide with this upcoming project!
Students will be dismissed for their summer holidays on Thursday, June 25th. We will confirm the exact time as soon as we can. Report cards will be issued at dismissal. Please note, we are not able to distribute report cards earlier than this time, and if students are not in school on this day, we will send the report cards via Canada Post. Please reach out if you have questions regarding this.
Congratulations to all of our Grade 6 students on your final year at Vanier. You have grown and learned so much in your time with us and these are such special years for us to have spent with you. Thank you for working to the best of your ability and working with us as we helped you grow in your learning journey. Thank you, Grade 6 families, for your support over these years. We are wishing the very best to all of you in the future, at MacDonald Drive Junior High and other schools in the Fall. Be very proud of all of your accomplishments and keep being the best you can be! Come back to visit us - we would love to hear all about your adventures!
A long time, valued staff member is leaving us to begin a new journey at the end of this school year, and we know that she will accomplish much in her retirement! Ms. Katie Sullivan has been our Band teacher for many years, and we always marvel at how far she takes our Gr. 5 and 6 Band Students in their time learning with her. Ms. Sullivan is truly a gifted Band Teacher and passionate Educator who contributes so much to the vibrant culture, not only of Vanier, but also of our city and our province. Read about the Katie Sullivan Instrument Library to learn more.
Ms. Sullivan, your energy, joy and musical presence will be missed greatly. Thank you for making our students the best musicians they can be...for helping them find music within themselves and each other, and for bringing them together with other bands each year to make their beautiful sound grow bigger and bigger...may your students always make music and celebrate the love you have inspired for it.
And, May The Force Be With You, Ms. Sullivan!
It is always hard to say good bye to our staff members at the end of the year...we hope we can work with you again at some point in the future...
Mme Shannon Greene has been replacing Mme Kelly in Kindergarten French for this year. Mme Greene, we are so grateful for all you have done for our school this year and for our class of Maternelle!
Ms. Christine Caines is a long time substitute who has been working with our Gr. 1 English class replacing Ms. Kinsella while she is away. Ms. Caines, we thank you for all your hard work and we appreciate everything you have done to make the transition easier for our 1E class.
Ms. Erica Mauger is our part-time LEARN/EAL teacher who has worked with some of our newer students to assist them in their English language learning. Ms. Mauger, we are so grateful to have gotten to work with you this year and we know you will be missed, but that Roncalli is truly gaining a wonderful addition to their staff!

Any medicine currently stored at school (puffers, etc.), must be picked up on the last day of school.
For the 2026-27 school year, families who require daily or emergency medication to be stored at school are required to have forms completed by a physician and parent/guardians before we can administer any medication. The forms are available on our website and at this link . Preparing these with your doctor before the first day of school is greatly appreciated.
Our Vanier Volunteers mean so much to us and we want to thank you for all you do! From Coaching to School Council to Breakfast Program, chaperoning, library, book fair and beyond, your help has made our world so much brighter at Vanier this year! Thank you for being part of our Volunteer Family. Watch for our Volunteer Appreciation Acknowledgement in the coming days.
If you are moving over the summer and will not be with us in September, please let us know. Contact tinamaloney@nlschools.ca. We will arrange for files to be available/transferred to your new school.
Bussing is provided for students in the Vanier Elementary Boundary only. Families outside this zone can apply for Courtesy Seating on the established bus routes before the end of September, however this is only available if there is space on the bus. Please note, if your child is not a regular bus student, they should not access the bus from a friend's house without having Courtesy Seating approval. We are required to have a listing of all students who take the bus, and the driver is responsible for the students who regularly ride their bus.
Families using the bus system should have an account, or create one, in NLSchools Bussing Portal . There may be changes to bus routes and stops in the new school year. If you have any questions relating to the Bus Route & Stop Design Guidelines or assistance with your BusPlanner Web Parent Portal Account , please refer to the Public Inquiry Form, located on the NLSchools Student Transportation page.
We are forever grateful to Ms. Rhonda Mackinnon, Baby Imogen and her family who have become part of the Gr. 5E class this year in the Roots of Empathy Program. This is a beautiful program where children get to visit monthly with a baby in their first year of life, and observe how the baby develops. Through interactions with the baby instructor, children learn to connect and develop empathy for others. It has been a wonderful experience for Ms. Pottles class and we are so thankful for this beautiful program in our school!
We are delighted to announce that we will again be a Roots of Empathy School in 2026-27. We are looking for a family with a baby 2- 4 months old in October, interested in participating in this program. It would require one visit to the school per month, starting in October. An instructor who will help our students learn about and observe your baby's growth and development, all while developing empathy and connections with the baby, the family and with each other. For more information, please see 1. Family Recruitment Poster and 2. Are You a Proud Parent. If you are interested, please contact tinamaloney@nlschools.ca .
The following programs will continue to operate next year and you can connect with them directly regarding any inquiries:
