Our Athletics Department is very passionate about working hard to provide memorable high school athletics experiences for our student athletes. We need your help in creating these experiences for our student athletes.
Parental support is valued and encouraged. Parents/guardians and spectators must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and act as positive role models for all participants.
There are situations that may require a conference between the coach, the athlete, and the parent. These are encouraged. When these conferences are necessary, the following procedure should be followed to help resolve the concern.
When appropriate your child should first talk with the coach.
If the coach/athlete meeting does not clear the situation then the parent(s) should call or email the coach.
Times to be avoided:
Either immediately prior to or right after a contest.
During an active practice session.
During a time when other students are present or when the discussion is readily visible by others.
When it is apparent that there is not sufficient time to allow for a complete discussion.
If the parent(s) need further discussion on the issue, the Athletic Director is the next contact. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached, the assistant principal, Stephanie Chaytor, is the next person a parent should contact.
*Please do not approach a coach before or after a contest or practice. These can be emotional times for both the parent and the coach. Meeting at these times generally does not work well for any of the parties involved.*
The following are appropriate concerns to discuss with coaches:
Advanced notice of schedule conflicts.
The treatment of your son / daughter.
Ways to help your son / daughter improve.
Concerns about your son / daughter's behavior.
The following matters should be left to the discretion of the coaches:
Playing time.
Decisions regarding which athletes make or do not make the team.
Team strategy and play calling.
Other student athletes’ conflict issues.
Coaches make the final decision on the amount of playing time an athlete receives. Please remember that senior high athletics is a competitive program and all athletes do not receive equal playing time. However, coaches are reminded to be fair and consider development of players as part of the program.
Please understand that participation in the athletic program is a privilege, not a right. We expect parents to support the concept of “being a student first”, to treat the school, coaching staff and team with respect, and to set a good example for your athlete.
While our coaches are all volunteers, there are expenses that arise that require the payment of fees. This may include: uniforms, ice rentals, registration fees, travel fees, ref fees, etc. The fee amount is determined by many factors and is individual to the team. Some sports may have much higher fees due to the nature of the sport. Payment is expected at the beginning of the season. Payment plans may be arranged for sports with higher fees (ice hockey).
We make every effort to ensure that financial barriers do not impact athletes ability to participate and compete. If your family is experiencing a financial barrier, please reach out to administrative assistant Nancy Lacey, athletic director, or a member of our administrative team.
