February is jam-packed with fun!
We held our Olympic Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, February 5th, and classes were randomly assigned countries in our assembly. We are following and tracking these countries and their progress in the Olympics, and learning more about their culture, location, etc. in our classes. A big thank you to our Olympic Committee for all their hard work preparing these events! GO CANADA!!!
This week we celebrate Education Week in our province. The theme this year is Learn! Teach! Inspire! ~ Apprendre ! Enseigner ! Inspirer ! For over 80 years, the Newfoundland and Labrador Teacher's Association has recognized Education Week as a time to celebrate K-12 Education and the work of teachers, staff, and students, as well as family supporting that learning journey. We wish all in our Vanier Community a very happy Education Week.
Dart Outdoors is held yearly during Education Week. Our school will participate on Friday, February 13th in the afternoon. Please ensure that your child is equipped to go outdoors and enjoy the fun on Friday! More information on Dart Outdoors can be found here.
Janeway Day in the Schools will be celebrated on Friday, February 13. If families would like to make a donation to the Janeway, we ask that you please us this link and mention our school! Thank you for supporting this wonderful facility that we are so lucky to have here in our community.
Valentine's Day will also be celebrated on Friday. Teachers will advise regarding classroom plans for Valentine's. We wish a very Happy Valentine's Day to all in our Vanier Community!
We are celebrating Teacher and Staff February 9 -15. We have such a wonderful, strong team at Vanier and we hope that students and families can take a moment to write a note to tell a teacher or staff member why they are appreciated. This goes far on a week where we celebrate our staff! We would like to acknowledge our School Council for organizing events for this week, and to all who have had a part in planning our Staff Appreciation. We are truly touched with the plans for the week, and want to thank you wholeheartedly for your kindness. It truly means so much to all of us.
Grade 6 English Families should have received information in your email regarding the Late French Immersion Session coming up on Tuesday February 10th, and the repeat session on Monday, February 16th. These are google meets that will be held online, and the link to the virtual session has been shared. Please reach out if you need assistance.
KinderStart will be held on Friday, February 20th. There will be no school for Kindergarten students on this day.
Any orders placed online for Pink Shirt Day t-shirts will be delivered to the school. Pink Shirt Day will be held on Wednesday, February 25th.
These classes won tickets to the upcoming Brier and will be 'in the house' to cheer on Team Gushue and Team Young (former Vanier student)! Congratulations to both classes and teachers on winning this great prize!

I am a Sea Star
At Vanier
I follow our matrix
Each and every day.
In the bathroom, the hallway,
At gym and music too,
Playground and classroom,
Respect for me and you.
I am RESPONSIBLE.
And KIND you’ll see,
RESPECTFUL and POSITIVE,
And practise SAFETY.
And then I am proud
When I look up and see,
I earned a Sea Star
I'm the Best I Can Be!
