General Daily Overview
The following is a guideline for parents. Its purpose is to provide an example of what a school day should look like while you are at home. I am open to suggestions and feedback to make this the best possible experience for your child during phase 3 scenario where physical schools are closed and your child is required to be at home for learning.
Starting our school day at 9:00am to 10:30am with breakout session at 1pm for 5students on 4 day rotation.
Day starts with a one hour online lesson with teacher (whole class instruction)
Lesson starts with hello’s and student sharing (10min)
Movement break (2 min)
Discussion of last days homework with teacher favorites displayed (5-10 min.)
Movement break (2 min)
Listening activity - teacher will read a book, or share an online audio book/video for the day's lesson, this will be posted in the google classroom for students to review later and help those students who were not able to connect. (10 min.)
Discussion on what has been observed (about 5 to 7 student responses approximately 10 min)
Movement break (2 min)
Interactive activity where students can write on a Jamboard, google doc. or collect an item from around the home to speak about (10 min.)
Last thoughts and goodbye to each student individually, Once I have said a personal goodbye you can leave the classroom.
At home activity (homework) - I will leave the class with an at home assignment each day to be completed after we have our google meet throughout the day. I will have parents take a picture of their child's work and send it to me. I will then reply with feedback and a mark for your child to read. I hope to send the responses to both the parent and the student email so they can look it up themselves.
Though I can not require it I would strongly suggest that your child have one hour of outdoor time each day of the week. We always go out regardless of the weather at 12:30 for 40min to one hour when in school. This time is a great opportunity for your child to explore the natural world, in addition studies support that outdoor play provides your child with cognitive building skills, physical health, and emotional well being. (see website for examples)
Though I can not require it I would strongly suggest that you include one hour of no technology each day. This means no electronics, tv, or other device that uses technology to interact with your child. In this hour children need to come up with their own ideas for play time, this may include a craft, building a game/project, reading, playing lego, dolls, dinkies… The intention is for your child to be immersed in imaginative play, not to be told to go and do an activity. (see website for examples)
15 min of book time each day will help your child appreciate books and learn to read. This may include Razkids, physical book, magazine...
Please have your parents take pictures of work you have been doing at home and I will be posting it to the photos section found at the top of the website.
For every assignment you email to me I will respond with a comment and a mark out of 4. Use my comments to improve your work each time. I love seeing your best! Take a look at some assignments already passed in.
