As stated in the NL curriculum guide for religious education:
The focus for Historical Concepts is looking back over time to explore the connections among religious beliefs, history, and culture. Students may ask questions, such as
• Where did Christianity begin?
• How has Islam changed over time?
• Does Judaism look the same all over the world?
• Does the Torah come in more than one language?
• What did Christians and Jews do during the Second World War?
The focus for Personal Concepts is looking inwards to reflect on personal ideas, beliefs and values. Grade 4 students explore the nature of belief in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism to expand their understanding of their own ideas about problems, questions, and issues.
Students may ask questions, such as
• How do I know what is the “right” thing to do?
• How will this decision affect me?
• How might a Muslim make decisions about a problem?
• What are the rules of Christianity? How does a Christian follow them?
• What does the Torah teach Jews about right and wrong?
• Do some ideas about right and wrong change over time?
• Why should I care about this?
The focus for Community and Environment Concepts is on making connections. Grade 4 students explore how Christians, Jews, and Muslims understand their place in the world and connections to other people. This exploration can help students to expand their understanding of their own place in the world. Students may ask questions, such as
• How will I act towards others?
• Why should I care about what happens in the world?
• How does what I do make a difference in the world?
• What does the Qur’an teach Muslims about their connection to others?
Students will be expected to:
