for Middle Grades and Secondary Educators
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program prepares bachelor’s degree holders who are already knowledgeable in their content areas into outstanding middle grades and secondary educators.
Combining thoughtful placements, knowledgeable cooperating teachers, and courses taught by expert faculty, our MAT program develops effective teachers with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to contribute to their students' academic and personal development.
Program Flexibility: Designed to be completed in 5 semesters or 20 months, including summer term. All courses, except field experiences courses, are taught online in an asynchronous manner.
Our curriculum: Coursework includes 33-36 credit hours, 200 hours of integrated field experience and a semester of full-time clinical experience (student teaching).
Option 6: You can complete the program in one of two ways: either (1) through unpaid internship in a local teacher's classroom or (2) being hired by a Kentucky principal to teach the content in which you're earning certification (called Option 6 certification). If you are hired on Option 6 certificate, your field placements may take place in Kentucky (Rank II).
