GOOOOOOOOO LIONS!!!!!!!!
Thank you for showing interest in the New Kent Middle School cheerleading program. NKMS Cheer is committed to excellence in all areas of our lives- on the sidelines, in the classroom, and in our community. As a team we strive to represent our school with pride, spirit, and sportsmanship while promoting teamwork, leadership, and school spirit.
We’re so excited that you’re interested in becoming part of the New Kent Middle School cheer program! Cheerleading is a fun, challenging, and rewarding experience that builds confidence, teamwork, school spirit, and leadership skills. While no experience is required, we are looking for athletes with a strong sense of commitment, a great work ethic and positive attitude! This site will help you take those next steps toward potentially becoming a NKMS cheerleader.
Next Steps: To help you get ready for tryouts and be fully prepared to join our team, please complete the following steps:
Learn the Material
Visit the links provided to learn the cheers/ chants, jump tutorials, and basic motions. Take time to practice and become confident with the material—this will help you shine during clinics and tryouts!
You will be responsible to learning the three chants/cheers linked on our site.
While we review these chants/cheers at our clinic, THESE CHEERS/CHANTS will not be taught!
Get a Current Athletic Physical
All students must have a completed and up-to-date VHSL sports physical on file before participating in clinics or tryouts. Be sure to use the school’s required physical form and submit it to Coach Tamika Hathaway or our athletic director as soon as possible.
Athletic physicals will be given at New Kent High School on Monday, May 11th from 3PM to 6PM. The cost is $50.
The student/family portion of the athletic physical form must be filled out prior to the examination.
The form can be downloads from the New Kent High School Athletics website.
Mark your calendar for the NKMS Cheer Tryouts
Clinics are your opportunity to work with other athletes, review tryout material, and get tips and support before tryouts. Attendance is highly encouraged and helps ensure you're confident and ready.
TRYOUT CLINICS: August 3rd, 4th, and 5th
TRYOUT: August 6th
All clinics and tryouts will be 6:30PM to 8:00PM
In the event that you cannot attend the tryout clinics, the material will be added to the goggle site daily at the end of the clinic.
