The Materials and Structures Laboratory (MatSLab) at New Jersey Institute of Technology is home to experimental and computational research of construction materials and structures. Laboratory directors Matthew P. Adams and Matthew J. Bandelt (the Matts) lead a diverse team of graduate and undergraduate research assistants in research studies of local, national, and international importance to the concrete, construction, infrastructure ,and sustainability communities. Researchers at the MatSLab are heavily involved in regional, national, and international professional organizations aimed at advancing the sustainability and resilience of the built environment.
The laboratory has received over $2.2mm in funding from the Federal Highway Administration, USDOT UTC Program, the Port Authority of NY and NJ, the National Science Foundation, New Jersey Department of Transportation, the American Concrete Institute, and private industry, among others. The laboratory directors, as well as current and former students, have received individual recognition and awards from groups such as the American Concrete Institute, the National Science Foundation, the US Department of Transportation, and the American Associated of State Highway and Transportation Officials.
