Streamlining Supercomputing Student Onboarding: Getting a new user onto a supercomputer usually means SSH and keys, the Linux command line, file management, and a scheduler, all before anyone runs anything of their own. This talk shows how the Morehouse Supercomputing Facility uses Tapis to remove that stack of prerequisites: Tapis is the supercomputer in a web interface, so a user logs into a website and is on the system, moving files, seeing what is there, and launching jobs, with no terminal, no SSH, and no Slurm scripts. Dr. Scruse will walk through what the setup looks like in practice, why it works for users who have never written a job script, and where the command line still matters.
Presented by: Dr. Ashley Scruse is Deputy Director of the Morehouse Supercomputing Facility. Her research interests are mathematical and computational frameworks for identifying significant regulatory patterns in complex biological networks, and HPC and AI education, particularly what skills introductory users need to adopt these tools effectively. She holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Clark Atlanta University and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Georgia, and her dissertation introduced the theory of subnetwork motifs.

The role and impact of AI tools and practices that inform data visualization pedagogy Artificial Intelligence. AI impacts all levels of learning and is most helpful when dealing with large amounts of data. This project is performing a systematic review of past and current AI tools and practices that have been used to teach data visualization. The purpose of the project is to identify what has been done and inform future paths of research inquiry.
Presented by: Dr. Vetira Byrd, Department Head and Associate Professor, Computer Science at James Madison University. Currently the Department Head and Associate Professor of Computer Science at James Madison University, Dr. Byrd is a nationally recognized expert in information visualization and Data Visualization Pedagogy. Previously, Dr. Byrd served as the associate department head of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University.
