Julia Hyland Bruno holds a PhD in Biopsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience (Psychology) from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Her dissertation research in Ofer Tchernichovski's lab at Hunger College, CUNY focused on rhythm development in zebra finch song learning. The groundwork for the AVID Lab was laid during a postdoc in the Presidential Scholars in Society and Neuroscience program at Columbia University through the interdisciplinary mentorship of Peter Bearman (Sociology) and George Lewis (Music). Dr. Hyland Bruno has been an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology since September 2025, having first joined the NJIT faculty in 2022 as an Assistant Professor of Cyberpsychology within the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
