COURSE OVERVIEW

This five-day BIS sponsored training program is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in IS standards, offering a clear understanding of their significance, applications, and roles in various engineering domains. This course will equip the students aspiring to enter the engineering field and seasoned professionals  looking to stay updated with the latest standards with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex world of industry standards. This program will share various IS standards, their relevance in diverse engineering disciplines, how they are different/similar to other international standards, and practical guidelines for their implementation. It will also be a platform to discuss other international standards and the latest developments in materials testing and characterisation.

National Institute of Technology Calicut

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the 31 institutions of national importance set up by an Act of Parliament namely the ‘National Institute of technology Act 2007’, and is fully funded by the Government of India. The mandate of the Institute is to provide higher technical education and conduct research in the various branches of Engineering, Science, Technology and Management. Originally established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it was transformed into a National Institute of Technology in 2002. The Institute offers 11 UG programs, 29 PG programs  and doctoral degree programs in Engineering, Science, Technology and Management. With its proactive collaborations with a multitude of research organisations, academic institutions, and industries, the institute has set a new style for its functioning under the NIT regime. 

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MED) is the largest department in NIT Calicut, which was established in 1961. The department offers regular undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programmes. Besides teaching, the faculty members are involved in outreach activities, sponsored research and consultancy works. It regularly conducts GIAN courses, Faculty Development Programs, Short Term Training Programs, and Technical Workshops under continuing education programs for industry and academic personnel. Over and above, the faculty of the department delivers expert lectures and keynote addresses for many technical and management institutions. MED offers two BTech. programs, six M. Tech. programs and Ph.D. programs and is a DST-FIST-sponsored department.
