Centre for Precision Measurements and Nanomechanical Testing, NITC
The DST-FIST Centre for Precision Measurements and Nanomechanical Testing, NIT Calicut, is a specialized facility under the Department of Mechanical Engineering, supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, through the FIST programme. The centre was established under the leadership of Prof. Jose Mathew to facilitate research in diverse areas of precision measurement, characterisation, and advanced manufacturing. The centre provides advanced facilities for research and industrial applications, including a 3D Optical Profilometer, Nanoindenter, High-Speed Camera, and Thermal Imager.
Our team was fortunate to conduct some major conferences/workshops:

13th International Conference on Precision, Meso, Micro and Nano Engineering (COPEN 13), December 13 - 15 , 2024 (Website: Click here)
The Conference on Precision Engineering (COPEN) was spearheaded by IIT Madras in 2000 to bring the academicians, researchers and practicing engineers for sharing their experiences in the field of precision engineering. It has gained wide acclaim over the years and reached an international status in 2006. The thirteenth international conference is being organized by NIT Calicut during December, 2024. This is the second time that COPEN is being organised by NIT Calicut, the first instance being in 2013.
The objective of the conference is to provide a common platform for specialists working in precision, meso, micro and nano engineering industries and academic institutions as well as R&D organizations to come together for interaction and exchange of their ideas related to technology developments in the areas of strategic, automotive, aerospace, electronics, and bio-medical industries that require complex features on products, product miniaturization, precision manufacturing and quality control through advanced metrology. The conference also aims at networking of participant institutes/organizations/industries to systematically confront challenges in mutual areas of interest to advance manufacturing technology in these areas. The COPEN conference continues to grow as a platform where manufacturers, researchers and academia gather to connect with the pace of innovation in manufacturing technology.

NIT Calicut
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the 31 institutions of national importance governed by the NIT Act 2007 and is fully funded by the Government of India. Originally established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it was transformed into a National Institute of Technology in the year 2002. The institute offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programme in Engineering, Science, Technology and Management. With its proactive collaborations with a multitude of research organizations, academic institutions and industries, the institute has set a new style for its functioning under the NIT regime. The Institute is presently offering 11 UG programme and thirty PG programme along with Ph.D. programme in various fields of Engineering, Science Technology and Management.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering is the largest and one of the oldest departments in the Institute. It offers two undergraduate and six postgraduate programmes apart from Ph.D. programmes in diverse specializations. It also offers a number of short term/continuing education programmes. It is a DST- FIST sponsored department and recently DST has sanctioned Rs 251 lakhs under FIST scheme to set up a Centre for Precision Measurements and Nanomechanical Testing.
