Once the initial fear is over, Mechanics is fun (at least when you don’t have any exams to write…!). Computational Mechanics is much more fun to play with, since it offers a lot of flexibility, which cannot be provided by experimental or analytical mechanics. At the same time, the tendency to accept the outputs of a computational analysis without proper scrutiny would be a serious pitfall.
It is told that, “experimental results are believed by everyone other than the experimentalist, theoretical results are believed by no-one other than who developed the theory, while the computational results are believed by none.”
Hence, it is the responsibility of the person doing the analysis to ensure and convince the accuracy of the results, to himself/herself first and others later, and devise the methods for achieving those goals.
