Demonstrating chemical experiments has always been an effective way to spark curiosity in young minds. A team of volunteers conducted a series of experiments, ranging from the classic flame test for salts and color-changing acid-base indicators to the dramatic 'elephant toothpaste' and 'genie in a bottle,' both based on the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where the thoughtful questions from participants reflected their curiosity and enthusiasm.

The club brought together a team whose main objective was to highlight chemistry that shows up in history, popular movies, anime, novels and advertisements. They crafted a series of questions which can be answered with smart guesses, thus making the event engaging to students of non-chemistry backgrounds. The quiz fostered an environment where participants could see the relevance of chemistry in everyday life, sparking curiosity and interest in a subject they might have previously overlooked.

26th of January. A national holiday.
(Not for you though.)
There's no break in this business. But it's almost dawn. You can finally look forward to a sudsy bath, a warm meal and the weekend.
Alas! The tring of your phone has to yank you out of comforting thoughts. Worse yet, a student from NISER is dead: a probable case of poisoning.
You send an immediate request for an autopsy while your assistant rushes to their car to get the details from the university. It's your turn now. Can you find the murderer?
No one knows.
But there were suspects. And then there were detectives.
As the evidence began to pile ... the fingers pointed in all directions?
P.S. The club thanks Amit and Srikrishna for providing photography coverage for the event!
Case Files Get Disclosed (Finally!)
Suspiciously plotting their next plan
"if only I had another clue" moment
Why does this clue make me more clue-less than ever?
Detectives at Work
What a headscratcher
Dumb idea, back to the drawing board

Prerana is an event that Zaariya hosts for kids of the security staff, IWD (Institute Works Department) and house-keeping staff of NISER to foster innovative and scientific thinking. The event is also aimed to provide exposure to a variety of curricula, from different departments, of our institute. The clubs of NISER participate in and display a wide range of fascinating and enjoyable activities, including experiments, during this event. TFR has been a part of this wonderful day of science, since its inception in 2022.
This year, the club, on behalf of the School of Chemical Sciences (SCS), conducted an exhibitional chemistry session for students. Several fun experiments including the soapy-fluffy elephant toothpaste, eye-catching indicators, and colorful flame tests were exhibited. After each experiment the science behind the experiment was explained to the children in simple language, who expressed their satisfaction in learning new concepts in chemistry.
Much has to been said about the volunteers without the volunteers, without whom, this event could never be pulled off. The club thanks Aditya, Amrut, Aradhana, Bappaditya, Chinmay, Dharun, Manoranjan, Narayan, Omm, and Sonali for their active involvement during this event!
"The Genie in a Bottle" has been one of the flagship experiments in TFR's arsenal.
Prerana 2022 was an expository outreach program for the children of NISER’s general workforce. TFR participated in the event with an exhibitional chemistry session. Several fun chemistry experiments like elephant toothpaste, baking soda rocket, liquid nitrogen freezing, fluorescence demonstrations, and flame tests, were performed in front of the children. After each experiment, the science was explained to the children in a lucid manner. The exhilarating event was enjoyed and well appreciated by the children of different age-groups in the audience.
Khojo toh Jaane!!! was a chemistry-themed treasure hunt organised during NISER’s inter-college fest Tvisha. The event involved locating various interconnected clues littered around the campus by application of the knowledge of chemistry. Only by solving the previous clue, one can proceed to the next and ultimately to the final prize, which made the event a race-against-time of sorts. The event received participation from student groups of science and engineering colleges across Odisha and was received well for its ingenuity and engaging format.
