Quantum Computing with Neutral Atoms
National Quantum Mission project
National Quantum Mission project
Project Description
This project aims to develop a scalable, programmable quantum computing platform using neutral atoms trapped in optical lattices or optical tweezers. The research will involve the design, construction, and operation of advanced quantum hardware, including ultra-high vacuum systems, laser cooling and trapping setups, optical control systems, and quantum logic gate implementation using Rydberg interactions. The effort is part of India's strategic National Quantum Mission and is focused on developing indigenous technologies for next-generation quantum processors and will be done collaboration with other institutes.
Selected candidates will contribute to one or more of the following areas:
Atom trapping and laser cooling
Optical tweezer arrays and beam shaping
Rydberg-mediated quantum gates
FPGA-based real-time control and synchronization
Integration of high-stability lasers, AOMs, EOMs, and feedback systems
Desired Qualifications
For JRF/SRF/SPA positions or equivalent (latest degree MSc or equivalent)
Strong academic background in quantum mechanics, atomic physics, optics and electrodynamics
Willingness to work on experimental systems, including optics and electronics as well as computational physics
For RA/Project Scientist positions or equivalent (latest degree PhD or equivalent)
Experience with CAD design (e.g., SolidWorks/Autodesk ) for mechanical and optical setups
Hands-on work with vacuum systems, including assembly and leak testing of UHV chambers
Familiarity with laser systems: diode lasers, frequency locking, beam alignment
Knowledge of AOMs, EOMs, and optical modulators
Experience with data acquisition and control systems (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, FPGA, PXIe, Arduino, or similar)
Understanding of quantum optics, atomic clocks, or laser cooling
Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative research environment
Lead part of the project independently with undergrad and grad students
If you have any of the above desired qualifications or are confident to pick up the skills in a reasonable time frame (few months), you may find yourself suitable for the project.
Please refer to the advertisements for details of essential qualification and application procedure.
