Galactic and Extragalactic Magnetism Seminars (GEMS)

Online talk series
We are delighted to introduce the Galactic and Extragalactic Magnetism Seminars (GEMS), a series of online seminars devoted to research involving astrophysical magnetic fields on scales above ~1 parsec. Observationally, such magnetic fields are probed using total and polarized radio continuum emission (dominated by synchrotron) and far-infrared (dominated by thermal dust emission), among other probes. Theoretically, magnetic fields are affected by processes like small-scale and large-scale dynamo action, which can be studied using MHD simulations and mean-field models.
Talks are useful for learning about others' work, sharing our own work, and forming connections with other researchers. Online seminars are relatively easy to organize compared to in-person meetings and are low-risk, high-reward. We particularly had in mind researchers with less funding or fewer opportunities to travel and meet researchers in the field, but we are hoping for participation from the community at large.
We are a team of astro people working in India -- four faculty members and two PhD students. We specialize in topics that include magnetism of star-forming galaxies, radio galaxies and galaxy clusters, and we are a mix of theorists and observers. Our contact information is provided here.
The talks will be by invitation. We will focus on inviting early-career researchers who have recently published quality work that we feel will be of general interest to the community. Occasionally, we will also have talks by mid-career and senior researchers.
Those who are registered will receive a Google Meet link via email one day before the talk.
One ~45-minute talk followed by ~15 minutes of questions and up to 30 minutes of discussion.
Finally, we request you to spread the word by telling your colleagues and students about this series. We hope to see you all virtually at the first talk!
