Student Checkout
Pre-K - 1nd students will come to the library once a week for lessons/checkout.
2nd-5th students will come to the library every other week for lessons/checkout.
Students may come on non-library days to check out books with their teacher's permission.
Students may keep books for two weeks without renewing their books. After two weeks, if they want to continue to read the book, they will need to see the librarian to renew the checkout.
In order to promote freedom of choice in reading, books are not leveled in the library. Students will not be restricted to their reading level or reading ability when checking out books.
Parents are encouraged to talk with their student(s) about their library book choices.
Lost and Damaged Books
Accidents with books happen. If you have a damaged book, please bring it back to the library so Mrs. Bennett can repair it. Please do not try to fix or tape a book yourself. Mrs. Bennett has special super-thin book tape for fixing torn pages. Our district-wide procedure is to charge the full replacement cost of lost items and damaged items when the damage affects the readability or overall aesthetics of the book. This mostly occurs when liquid spills on a book (usually in a backpack) or a pet chews on it.
Replacement Cost
Library books are not the same as the books that you find in a bookstore or on Amazon.com. Those are “trade books”. We purchase books that have special library bindings that can withstand the wear and tear of multiple users. We buy these from vendors who specifically sell books with these bindings to libraries. If a book is lost or damaged, please contact Mrs. Bennett to find out the replacement cost of the book. This replacement cost of a library book will most likely be more than the cost of the book at a bookstore for the above reasons.
Refunds
Refunds will be issued for returned books up to 10 days from the last day of school. Any books returned after this date will not be issued a refund.
