A student absent without permission from school, from any class, will be considered in violation of the Compulsory Attendance Law and subject to disciplinary action if they miss:
10 or more days or parts of days in a 6 month period
3 or more days or parts of days in a 4 week period
Missing a class, being late to school, or leaving early (even 10 minutes) is considered a partial day absence.
A student 19 years or older may be withdrawn from school if they have more than 5 unexcused absences in a semester.
Unexcused absences follow your student throughout the school year.
A phone call is not enough.
Go to the campus website and complete the absence form. The form needs to be completed within 3 days of the absence, unless you have a doctor's note.
Only six parent notes will be accepted per school year.
After six notes, a doctor's note is required or the absence will be considered unexcused.
Make sure your contact information is up to date.
A campus is only required to make a "good faith effort" to contact parents.
Take steps to confirm that your child's school has your correct phone number and email address.
