General responsibilities of Class Officers:
Class officers must attend all class council meetings and be actively involved in all of the activities taken on by their particular class
All Class officers will serve on the Northwest Student Body Executive Board and attend all meetings
Class officers must be in the Student Leadership Officer Class (class period is determined each year by the Advisor and administration)
Class officers should be an active part of the Student Council and should attend all Student Council general meetings
Class President must attend and other officers are highly encouraged to attend the TASC Summer Workshop in July the summer after they are elected
All officers must be available for meetings throughout the summer, as well as work week, executive committee retreat and planning meetings
General Qualifications of Class Officers:
All appointed officers must meet the same qualifications as elected officers.
All officers shall maintain an average of 70 or above each nine weeks throughout their term of office, and follow the no-pass, no-play TEA/UIL guidelines.
Any officer that is deemed ineligible for a 2nd nine weeks during the school year can be removed from office, regardless of whether it is due to nine weeks grade and/or semester average.
Any officer may not fail more than one class (nine weeks and/or semester) during the current school year. If a student fails for a 2nd time this school year after elections, they will forfeit their newly elected position.
The officer must be enrolled as a full time student with the appropriate number of credits, as per UIL and attendance guidelines.
Presidential candidates must currently be an active officer or committee chair for the Class or Student Body. Candidates must have attended class council meetings and activities and Student Council meetings on a regular basis during the current school year (exception: incoming Freshmen)
All candidates for office must attend a mandatory meeting prior to elections.
Any exceptions are at the discretion of the Student Council Advisor(s).
A candidate for office must not have been in ISS, suspended, expelled, or sent to alternative school at any time prior to the election.
Any candidate for student membership who has received an ECO in a given semester must meet with the Advisor(s) for approval to run.
If truant after the election, the student may not assume office.
A candidate for office must not have been guilty of a major disciplinary infraction last year or during the time prior to assuming office or after assuming office. (they must not be on school probation) or council probation.
All officers must at all-times model the ideals promoted in the Student Council committees.
Class President’s duties shall be:
To preside over all class council meetings.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
To coordinate the activities of the class and keep in touch with the progress of each division of the program of activities with classmates and class representatives in Student Council.
Work closely with the Class Advisor on all class projects.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
Attend TASC summer leadership workshop.
The Class Vice-President’s duties shall be:
To assume the full powers, duties, and restrictions of the President when the President is absent.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
To become the ex-officio member of all committees.
Work closely with the Class Advisor.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
The Class Secretary’s duties shall be:
To prepare and present the minutes of each class meeting.
To prepare the agenda for each meeting.
To compile class reports.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
Work closely with the Class Advisor.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
The Class Treasurer’s duties shall be:
To prepare all financial reports as requested by the Class Advisor.
To present a Treasurer’s report for all class meetings.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
Work closely with the Class Advisor.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
The Class Parliamentarian’s duties shall be:
To be the authority on parliamentary procedure for the Class Council.
To assist the President in conducting class meetings according to parliamentary procedure.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
Work closely with the Class Advisor.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
The Class Historian’s duties shall be:
Maintain a file of materials about the activities of the class.
Make sure pictures are taken of all class activities
To record all class activities visually.
To serve as the official representative of the class at all Student Council meetings.
Work closely with the Class Advisor.
Be enrolled in the Student Leadership officer class.
Each candidate must adhere strictly to the rules of candidacy. Failure to do so could cause the candidate’s name to be removed from the ballot.
1. Each candidate must run a positive campaign.
2. Social media campaigning can only be done on Instagram. Social media campaigning must be positive for the candidate and NOT involve competitors. Must tag @texan.stuco on all social media posts. While you are not responsible for what your friends post, please make sure your friends are not putting other candidates down.
3. Posters must be approved by Mrs. Rose (Rm 2022) or Ms. Whitt (Rm 2914). Once approved by StuCo Advisors, posters must be approved (and stamped) by Mrs. Rolles or Mr. Campos prior to being hung. We recommend having the posters approved by the end of school the day before campaigning. You can get posters approved before you get the approval to run.
4. Posters can only be hung up in the hallways of the school. Posters may NOT be hung on the windows in the halls. Posters must be hung with painter’s tape and candidates must supply their own materials. (NHS is NOT responsible for this). Do NOT hang posters inside classrooms. Do NOT write on teachers white boards as a part of your campaign as it can’t be approved by Rose,Whitt or Admin.
5. Stickers and pins are NOT allowed as campaign material.
6. Food and beverages may NOT be used in a campaign.
7. Any give away items must be cleared by Ms. Whitt or Mrs. Rose, and
Mrs. Rolles or Mr. Campos PRIOR to you bringing them to campus.
8. All campaign materials must be removed by the end of school the day BEFORE ELECTION DAY. Your name can be removed from the ballot.
9. Candidates may hang up campaign posters only after they have turned in the petition to run for office and have been approved as a candidate. You can get poster approved before your are an official candidate, but can not hang them until campaigning opens on campus. We highly recommend you get your posters approved ahead of Campaigning!
Violations of Campaign Rules must be reported to Mrs. Rose or Ms. Whitt by 4:00pm the day BEFORE ELECTION DAY!
