Haslet Elementary School families,
As you probably remember from Northwest ISD’s 2017 bond package, a new Haslet Elementary School, "The Nest", is in the works, and I briefly want to talk about what this exciting news means for you and your child!
First off: Yes, the new school will open at the start of the 2020-21 school year in August! Construction crews are hard at work as I write this letter. The campus is located near the intersection of F.M. 156 and Avondale Haslet Road; you can see renderings of what the school will look like on the Northwest ISD construction website. To get an idea of the school’s interior style, you can view these photos of Lance Thompson Elementary School, which shares the same general design.
Many great new features will be very fun for our students. All the state-of-the-art features you can expect in a new school are included, such as collaboration spaces and new technology. It will also have an easy-to-navigate layout, so students – and families, when we have community events – will be able to arrive quickly where they want to go.
One aspect of the new campus to keep in mind is that its location is different, so your travel to the school will change. As always, students outside of a 2-mile radius from the school can ride the bus to school if their families desire.
I hope this letter was a quick reminder about what will be a historic change for our school. We’ll be sure to remind you of the new campus and any changes before the start of the school year, but we want you to have a heads-up as we know many of you are eager for the new building. We’re halfway through a great 2019-20 school year, and exciting changes are on the horizon!
Regards,
Mrs. Melissa Webber
Principal, Haslet Elementary School
Dear Haslet Families,
During the week of February 24th, we will be conducting a practice lockdown drill. This year we are partnering with Tarrant County Police Department and NISD Safety and Security to provide all teachers and staff with the most up to date measures in order to keep our students, teachers, and staff safe in the event we should ever have an actual threat. This drill will also help to familiarize us with our local officers. Many NISD campuses have already had a similar drill with their local officers, and they have gone very well.
Please know that our campus will have several police officers involved which will most likely gain the attention of neighbors and traffic driving by. To reduce worry and concern, please assure your children that we are all practicing a routine safety drill in which they have practiced twice each year, just without the involvement of our police department. We will review the drill with students on our end as well.
If you should have any questions or concerns please feel free to email Emily.mitchell@nisdtx.org.
We are excited to work with the officers and looking forward to a very positive experience!
