"Creative" is one of the primary qualities that my co-workers use when describing my teaching style, so I would probably most closely fall into the "Artist" approach with a touch of "Geek" and "Hacker." I thought that it was great to see how other teaching styles include creativity too. Sometimes I worry that creativity is frowned upon, so I love that this book shows how it is actually a foundation to the learning process.
I have been blessed to work (for 7 years !) with a "Geek-Engineer" that has patience and appreciation for my creativity. By learning to respect each other's differences & strengths, we have been able to artistically create and engineer- fix many lessons that foster the development of creativity in our students. Our differences bring in the different perspectives needed for multiple learning types.
In one sentence: Design thinking is a Wonder --> Create --> Share approach to education that brings in the real world and sparks intrinsic desire in students.
The Launch Cycle very much reminds me of the Engineering Method approach to problem solving in the science classroom and the INIWIRMO model in environmental education (see BEETLES video below) . I have seen elements of the LAUNCH Cycle in our science classrooms, certainly in the PLTW labs and outside of the classrooms at the OLC. I have also seen it come into play in Consumer Science and Passion projects.
