The tardy bell rings at 7:40 am. and staff close the doors to start class. Students need to arrive BEFORE 7:40 am. If a back car rider arrives after the doors are closed, please drive your child to the front entrance of the school and walk them up to the doors to ring the bell so that he/she can come through the office for a Tardy Pass. Thank you!

Northwest ISD families can track their students' buses quickly and easily with the SMART Tag system! The system allows a parent or guardian to sign into an iPhone or Android app to monitor their child’s bus in real time.

The system works by tracking a tablet on a bus with real-time updates. When a student boards a bus, they will scan their tag so the tablet assigns them to the bus for parents and guardians to track. This technology also ensures students board the appropriate bus, as the system will indicate if a student has boarded the wrong bus. Learn more and obtain app download links on this webpage.

Early Student Pick-Up

If you are picking your student up early for an appointment, 2:30pm is the latest we will be able to release students.

Student Lunch Drop Off

If your child forgot to bring their lunch from home, no worries! They will be able to get a lunch from the cafeteria or you may drop off their lunch by 9:30am. This 9:30am cut off time ensure that your child will receive their lunch for their designated lunch time.

RIDE CHANGE

All Northwest ISD parents and guardians have the ability to personalize when and how they receive communication from teachers, schools and the district in ParentSquare! For families who have not yet set up their accounts, please click the appropriate link in any district ParentSquare email to do so.

After creating an account, families can select whether to receive notifications immediately or as a recap of all notifications for the day each evening. To adjust your settings, click your name in the top right corner of the ParentSquare website, select “My Account” and then select “Notification Settings” on the left sidebar. Instant notifications will send more frequent communication, and the digest option will send communication as a recap each evening.

Elementary progress reports coming September 16

Families of elementary students will receive their first progress reports of the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, September 16. For elementary students, progress reports are sent once per quarter, between the fourth and fifth week of that quarter. Please be aware that this differs from secondary progress report schedules, meaning if you have a secondary student, the progress report timelines will not align between the levels.

For specials – including art, music and P.E. (or AMP) – assignments may have a numerical grade range of 0 to 3. In these cases, the following grade scale applies:

3: Excellent
2: Satisfactory
1: Needs improvement
0: Unsatisfactory

Progress report grades and report card grades for these classes will be displayed as an E, S, N or U, corresponding to the same scale as assignment grades. For more information about elementary grading guidelines, view this informational document.

Have you moved or changed your name? There are several local, state and national elections coming up on the November 5 ballot. The deadline to register to vote is October 7. Check your voter registration status, update your information, and access a voter registration card at www.votetexas.gov. Early Voting will be October 21 through November 1, and Election Day is November 5. Your vote counts!

As Northwest ISD works to educate community members about the district's upcoming Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election, it will partner with local community organizations to provide presentations and answer questions.

Individuals who lead local organizations are encouraged to email Anthony Tosie, executive director of communications, at anthony.tosie@nisdtx.org with the date, time and location of an event to potentially schedule a presentation. Various district leaders will provide presentations in September and October. Examples of groups that may wish to schedule a VATRE presentation include, but are not limited to:

Booster Clubs
Homeowners Associations
Real Estate Professional Meetings
Retirement Communities
School PTAs
Youth Sports Associations

In addition to joining community groups to provide presentations, the district will host its own community presentations open to all in the coming weeks. All VATRE presentations are strictly factual in nature.

Cox Elementary has donated the most money to NEF for this event the past 2 years!!! Let’s keep the giving tradition going!

During North Texas Giving Day, charitable organizations across the region seek community support for their missions. This year’s North Texas Giving Day, taking place September 19, the Northwest ISD Education Foundation will seek support for its goals that benefit district students and schools.

If donors choose to support NEF directly, funds will go toward teacher grants, student scholarships and special initiatives such as the resource store that provides teachers with free items. Donors also have the option to support a specific school through NEF, which will donate 50% to the school PTA and 50% to NEF initiatives. This event is free to attend! There will be lots of food, art, music, and fun! We are super excited to see you there!

Tuesday, Sept. 17th from 5:30-6:30

We would love for all of our Cox Cougars to register and complete the Kids-Teaching-Kids 21 Day Healthy Snacking Challenge sponsored by Medical City Healthcare. This is a free challenge that encourages our students (and hopefully their families) to eat at least one healthy snack a day for 21 days in the hopes of creating a habit. Parents can register their students at https://kids-teaching-kids.com/ . Registration is open from now until September 24th and the challenge begins on September 24th. There is an amazing digital recipe book that you can access but the healthy snack can be as simple as grabbing an apple as well!

At the end of the challenge, parents will need to fill out a short final assessment and all students who register and then have their parents complete the final assessment will receive a prize!

Historically Cox Elementary has one of the highest participation rates in Northwest ISD and we'd love to see all of our kiddos take part in this challenge!

Grandparent's Week is Coming!!!!

Cox Elementary would like to celebrate all of our Grandparents the week of Sept. 16-20. Grandparents are invited to join their grandchild's book fair shopping time. Be on the lookout from your child's teacher for the date and time of their class shopping time for the book fair. We are reserving lunch sign ups for Grandparents only during this week.

Visitors at Lunch

In order for our students to learn the routines and procedures, our campus will be closed to lunch visitors until Aug. 26th. From Sept. 16-20, lunch visitors will be reserved for Grandparents only (There is a sign up genus for during this time). Lunch visitors will be open to all visitors beginning August 26.

We have limited space and the tables are set up outside the cafeteria in the hallway designated for lunch visitors. Only you and your child will be able eat at the parent/student tables. No friends allowed. Lunch guests will need to bring their own lunch.

All visitors will need to check in with the office using their valid driver's license or government issued ID.

When your child's lunch time is over, visitors will need to come directly to the office and check out. For safety and security reasons, parents cannot follow students to their classroom or the playground.

In order for all parents to have the opportunity to eat lunch with their child, we ask that you limit your lunch visits to 2 times per student per grading period.

There will be some dates that our campus will be closed for lunch visitors due to events or changes in schedules. These will be communicated through Parent Square and your child's teacher.
