John Sikon
John Sikon has been conducting choirs at Byron Nelson High School since the school opened in 2009. During his time at Byron Nelson, choirs have consistently earned Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Additionally, members of the BNHS choir program consistently earn placement in TMEA All-Region and All-State ensembles. Choirs at Byron Nelson have been invited to sing all over the DFW metroplex including the “Cutting Edge” performance with Oklahoma State University at FUMC Fort Worth in 2017 and Mozart’s Requiem at White’s Chapel UMC in 2018.
Mr. Sikon holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Louisiana State University where he attended on a full tuition vocal scholarship. While at LSU, Mr. Sikon studied conducting with Dr. Ken Fulton and Dr. Sara Lynn Baird and he studied voice with Robert Grayson.
Mr. Sikon is in his eighteenth year of teaching high school choir. He is also the baritone soloist and section leader for the sanctuary choir at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas. When he is not singing or teaching music Mr. Sikon enjoys spending time with his children Abigail and Isaac, his wife Tara, and their dog Hank. Mrs. Sikon is the head choir director at Birdville High School.
Meredith Tompkins
Associate Director
Meredith Tompkins is a former All-State Mixed Choir member and holds a B.M. from Dallas Baptist University in Music Composition and an M.A. in Vocal Pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University. Before BNHS, Mrs. Tompkins had a private voice studio for eight years and then transitioned to teaching choir full-time.
As a professional vocalist, Meredith has performed with Orpheus Chamber Singers, Verdigris Ensemble, Incarnatus, Dallas Chamber Choir, and Highland Park Chorale. She sang with the Adirondack Performing Arts Fellowship in New York from 2012-2016, where she also served on the leadership team as choreographer and vocal director. She is currently a vocalist and audio designer for Carl Fischer choral publications.
Mrs. Tompkins' compositions have been presented at conference reading sessions and performances for the American Choral Director’s Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s SOLUNA Festival (2019) and the Cambiata Institute of America for Early Adolescent Vocal Music’s MS/JH National Conference (2018). She joined the Fort Worth Chorale’s Schola Cantorum project as a Cycle 3 composer in 2024 and was a 2025 winner of the HerVoice Emerging Women Composers global competition.
Eisha Epps
Eisha Epps is a private voice instructor, worship leader, and freelance singer in the DFW area. She studied voice at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (K-12). She directed middle school choirs for seven years and developed a successful choral program at a brand-new school. Her choirs consistently achieved top scores and rankings at district and regional contests.
Eisha has taught private voice lessons to middle school and high school students, most recently in Carroll, HEB, and Keller school districts. She has over twenty years of professional and civic vocal performance experience as a soloist and as a choir member in premiere a cappella choirs in Virginia, the Richmond Symphony Chorus, and churches. She is experienced in performing and teaching multiple genres of music including classical, opera, musical theater, pop, and sacred songs.
Eisha is currently enjoying her eleventh season singing with the Fort Worth Chorale under the direction of Dr. Karen Kenaston-French, Associate Professor and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas Arlington. In addition to teaching, Eisha is the worship leader in Walton Chapel at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake, Texas. She is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
Shannon Hassell
Shannon Hassell is a private voice teacher, who earned her B.M. in voice and education from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. She was the choir director at Medlin Middle School from 2002-06, where she built the choral program from 15 students to 90 students. She began teaching private voice lessons in 2006 in her home, at Plainview High School 2006-2010, and at Ambleside School San Angelo 2017-18.
Shannon has most recently taught voice lessons at Hays High School and Barton Middle School in Hays Consolidated ISD. Her students consistently made All-Region Choirs and earned Superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble Contests (Region and State). In the last two years, she had a 2nd Chair Tenor 1 and a 1st Chair Soprano 1 in the All-State Mixed Choir.
Shannon enjoys singing in her church choirs and praise teams and teaching Bible studies. Her husband is currently an Associate Pastor, and they have been in ministry together for over 25 years. They have two children, a daughter in college and a son in middle school.
Shannon has been a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing since 2006.
Kristen Martin
Kristen Martin is a classically-trained singer and pianist with over 30 years of teaching experience. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education in vocal music from Centenary College of Louisiana and a Master of Educational Administration from LSU. Kristen’s diverse musical background includes music theater (both performing and directing), opera, studio recording, television, contemporary Christian music, and church music. Her performance credits include the Fort Worth Opera, Lyric Stage, Regal Opera Company, Watertower Theatre, Continental Singers tour, and numerous local theaters.
Kristen has played a significant role in advancing music education through her leadership and service. She served seven years as Audition Chair on the board of directors for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She is also an active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), serving as the publications chair and a member of the scholarship committee, as well as the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA).
In addition to her extensive professional involvement, Kristen has been a choir director in public schools in Louisiana and Texas, consistently guiding her students to achieve high honors. Her students regularly become finalists in NATS competitions and earn spots in the Texas All-State Choir.
