THE DEPARTMENT
Mathematics is a diverse field and finds its applications in various disciplines of sciences, engineering and technical domains. The Department of Mathematics serves as an ancillary department to the Institute of Technology. It plays a diverse yet very unique and distinctive role because of its talented faculty pool. It strives to churn the students to be active analytical thinkers and problem solvers so that they can contribute positively to the world in which they live and learn. It endeavours to stimulate and augment the student’s knowledge of analytical, logical and problem-solving skills thereby endowing them to become proficient engineers. It offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The Department was established at the inception of the Institution with a vision to build the base and create a solid foundation of engineering courses. Three levels of courses are administered; core courses, discipline-specific applied mathematics and open electives courses. The department also handholds lateral entry students by offering bridge courses. It also offers a Minor in Applied Mathematics to all B Tech students. The department has highly qualified, dedicated and experienced faculty members involved in an active and ideal teaching-learning process. Various pedagogical tools are used for the effective teaching-learning process namely such as active learning, ICT-based learning, Flipped Classroom, Muddiest Point etc., which gives conceptual clarity and engages the students to make learning effective. The department regularly conducts pedagogy sessions to enhance the teaching and learning process. Besides teaching, faculty members are actively involved in research activities.
ABOUT NIRMA UNIVERSITY
Nirma University was established in the year 2003 as a statutory university under Gujarat State Act at the initiative of the Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF). In 1994, the founder of Nirma Industries and an internationally renowned entrepreneur Dr. Karsanbhai K Patel crystallized his long-cherished dream of providing world-class facilities for professional education in Gujarat. He established NERF which in turn has established a 125-acre campus and eight institutions within a span of 30 years. Currently, eight institutes including the Institute of Technology are functioning under the aegis of NERF. All these institutions have emerged as centers of excellence offering various programmes ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels. The University is duly accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with “A+” Grade in the year 2022.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is a key step in setting long-term quality standards. IQAC is a significant administrative body that is responsible for all quality matters. It is the prime responsibility of IQAC to initiate, plan and monitor various activities that are necessary to increase the quality of the education, research and administrative aspects imparted in an institution. The role of IQAC in maintaining quality standards in teaching, learning and evaluation has become crucial, and the present focus is to improve the functioning of IQAC with its expected outcomes. To channelize all efforts and measures of the university towards promoting its holistic academic excellence, the IQAC has been established. The prime task of the IQAC is to facilitate and participate in the development of a system for conscious and consistent improvement in the academic, research and administrative performance of the university.
ABOUT INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Institute of Technology, established in 1995, is the flagship Institute of Nirma University. The Institute offers multidisciplinary undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in the discipline of Engineering and Technology. The School of Engineering offers four-year B. Tech. Programmes in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, while the School of Technology offers B. Tech. Programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communications, and Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. All the B. Tech. Programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under the Tier-I category.
The Institute of Technology is a constituent institute of Nirma University, ranked in the band of 101-150 by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), making its mark among 4000 plus engineering colleges in the country. The institute has implemented National Education Policy 2020 for undergraduate students from Academic Year 2022-23.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF INSTITUTE
Mitsubishi Electric Cup (MECUP): The IC Department's team "CON-SOL-E" has won the Silver Cup consecutively from 2017 to 2019 and the Gold Cup in 2020, which included a sponsored trip to Japan.
National ROBOFEST 3.0 Success: In the 2024 grand finale, 11 teams from ITNU cleared the prototype stage, with 3 teams emerging as category winners and collectively winning ₹20 lakh in prize money.
National Robocon Champions: ITNU is a 11-time National Champion of the ABU Robocon India competition (most recently in 2024), representing India globally in countries like Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Objectives
The main objective of this Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) is to provide exposure to
Gain expertise in modelling and computational techniques
Apply numerical methods in research
Develop interdisciplinary problem-solving skills
Enhance publication and project capabilities.
Course Contents
The course covers the fundamentals of mathematical modelling, including model formulation, deterministic and stochastic approaches, fractional-order models, and relevant case studies. It also includes advanced numerical methods such as solving nonlinear equations, numerical linear algebra, interpolation, and error analysis. Participants will learn computational techniques for solving ordinary and partial differential equations using methods like FVM, FEM, and collocation. The programme further introduces data-driven modelling and machine learning concepts, including optimization, regression, and classification. Applications in areas such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, signal processing, and financial modelling are discussed. The course is complemented by hands-on sessions using Python and MATLAB for simulation and real-world problem-solving.
