National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is the first national level institute in pharmaceutical sciences with a proclaimed objective of becoming a centre of excellence for advanced studies and research in pharmaceutical sciences. The Government of India has declared NIPER as an 'Institute of National Importance'. It is an autonomous body set up under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. The Institute is conceived to provide leadership in pharmaceutical sciences and related areas not only within the country, but also to the countries in South East Asia, South Asia and Africa. NIPER is a member of Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities.

From Director's Desk

It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you , on behalf of NIPER Guwahati fraternity, on my assuming charge as its Director. NIPER, Guwahati is the only national pharma education institute for the entire North Eastern Region of our country. It was established in 2008 to provide high quality pharma education and research with focus on exploitation of natural and synthetic products of the region for drug discovery and development. At present, NIPER offers post graduate and doctoral research programs in pharmacology & toxicology, pharmaceutical practices and biotechnology. All of you are aware that the NIPER system in India has already demonstrated its unique strengths in offering quality pharmaceutical education in general and in integrated management of infectious diseases in particular. I am happy that NIPER, Guwahati has plans to introduce industry relevant academic programs in pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical analysis and business administration in the coming years. The admissions to NIPER, Guwahati are being made through the national level Joint Entrance Examination for post graduate students.

The management of NIPER provides encouragement to faculty to pursue sponsored research of high relevance to pharma industry and offer industrial consultancy services to further strengthen the bonds with pharmaceutical industry from North Eastern and other regions. I am particularly happy that the alumni of this institute has been playing an excellent role in all spheres of pharmaceutical activities in India and abroad. The institute takes immense pride in their achievements. Last but not the least, NIPER, Guwahati is making special efforts to encourage co-curricular activities including sports, adventure, cultural and social services among its students. The residential nature of our courses provide congenial environment to pursue these activities. Finally, I heartily welcome the newly admitted students to the portals of this great institution and wish them and the faculty, an outstanding academic year. I look forward to a professional rewarding tenure at this institute with full cooperation from one and all.
