The chemists are a strange class of mortals impelled by an almost insane impulse to seek their pleasure among smoke and vapour, soot and flame, poisons and poverty; yet among all these evils I seem to live so sweetly that I may die if I would change places with the Persian King.
Johann Joachim Becher (1669)
Research Theme
Synthetic organic chemistry: Sustainable development; Transition metal- and organo-catalysis; Synthesis of APIs/NCEs, key or advanced intermediates of a drug and starting materials; Asymmetric synthesis.
Medicinal chemistry program related to different clinical goals: Small molecule scaffolds as potential diabetic ulcergenic wound healing agents, anti-cancer agents and rare disease drug candidates (cystic fibrosys).
Organic stimuli responsive materials: Synthesis of new organic functional materials which display changes in physical characteristics (e.g., different chromism response, shape, memory, self-folding pattern, etc.) under external stimuli, such as temperature, pressure, solvent, pH, mechanical force, electric/magnetic field, doping agents, etc.
