Founded in 2021 by Aven Yap, a classical pianist turned filmmaker, Nimbus Creative is a dynamic production company in Brisbane, Australia dedicated to crafting the best feature films and television series. Our projects have a distinct culture and music angle with fresh voices and compelling stories that have global reach. We love partnerships, shaping projects with creatives, and building exciting teams and joint ventures where art and commerce beautifully intersect.

Born in Malaysia and raised in Brisbane, Aven Yap has worked across a diverse slate spanning Asia and Australia. His credits include the true-crime documentary 'Mama's Boy' (Melbourne Women in Film Festival 2018) and the multilingual factual series 'The Yoga Revolution', shot in five Asian countries.

His award-winning short film 'Piano Mums' currently has a feature adaptation in development with Screen Queensland and Screen Australia. Aven was also one of six writers selected by the Australian Writers’ Guild to participate in Equity Foundation’s 2018 Talent Diversity Showcase.

Aven's extensive experience includes working with leading production companies including WildBear Entertainment across 40+ hours of factual content for the ABC Australia, and the Disney+NatGeo feature documentary 'Playing with Sharks', and serving as a Story Development Executive at BAFTA and Emmy-winning Hoodlum Entertainment. Aven was selected to participate in Screen Producers Australia's prestigious 2022 Ones to Watch program.

In addition to his filmmaking endeavours, Aven has lectured on creative producing and spoken at conferences including SPA Screen Forever and Pitch Fest Canberra. Aven regularly consults on Australian screen agency grant applications and works with not-for-profits such as Women in Film and Television Australia and Queensland Community Television (where he is a founding board member). 

Aven also holds an Associate Diploma in Piano Performance (Distinction) from the Trinity College of London and nearly two decades of experience playing piano, bringing a unique blend of artistic vision and storytelling expertise to Nimbus Creative.
