UNFAIR: insights to action event: 21 March 2024, 10am – 4pm, York

Chaired by Prof Peter Kelly CBE, OHID Regional Director and NHS Director of Public Health, North East & Yorkshire, and Prof Clare Bambra, Professor of Public Health, Newcastle University. This is a FREE interactive event for those working across all parts of the NHS, local authorities, voluntary and community sector organisations, academia and members of local communities to improve health and care equity.

NATIONAL HEALTH INEQUALITIES IMPROVEMENT NETWORK, June 2023

Sarah Sowden shared details of the UNFAIR research programme and the public views of health inequalities animation with over 100 people involved in the national health inequalities improvement network chaired by Prof Bola Owolabi, Director of the National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Programme, NHS England.  Network members include National Clinical Directors, National Specialty Advisors, and clinical and professional leads from across regions, Integrated Care System localities, Primary Care Networks, and hospital trusts as well as VCSE organisations and NHS Ambassadors.

Following from our PPIE project exploring public views of health inequalities, we presented the learning from this project to the NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria's Research Champions Development Group Meeting.

UNDERSTANDING HEALTH INEQUALITIES PPIE WORKSHOP, July 2022

This virtual workshop on the 18th of July aimed to explore the public's views and understanding of health inequalities. During the workshop, we explored how members of the public view health inequalities. We also explored how people feel about health inequalities and their views about what can be changed to address them.  

We used what was said to co-produce resources to help bring key concepts, such as health inequalities, to life for diverse groups of people and communities. The resources will also be shared with decisions makers in the health inequalities field.

UNFAIR DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP, March 2022

At this virtual event collaborators in the UNFAIR project from the NHS, Office for Health Improvement & Disparities, Local Authority, Voluntary and Community sectors backgrounds, alongside members of the public and leading experts from a range of academic institutions came together to:

1. Share and discuss initial findings from the UNFAIR systematic review work programme

2. Reflect upon and further develop the explanatory framework for UNFAIR

UNEQUAL AGEING, RESPONDING TO HEALTH INEQUALTIES IN LATER LIFE, January 2020 

Sarah Sowden spoke about the UNFAIR research programme as part of the “Research and Innovation Matters" events series at Newcastle University. These events aim to highlight areas of research excellence to people outside of the university, and to gather insights from the public to help focus health research on unmet needs and priorities.
