Information for Patients
Before anyone can participate in the EASY-AS trial you will need to meet a set criteria, know as the eligibility criteria. Only those who meet this criteria are allowed to join the trial and this will need to be confirmed by a clinician at a hospital that is taking part in this trial. In the information provided below you can find plenty of resource that can provide you more information about the trial and what is involved.
We would suggest that if you are interested in participating in this trial that you read the information provided on this website, have discussions with friends, family and your GP. If you still want to proceed you will need to be referred to, or if you are already being treated for this condition, discuss with the team at one of the listed hospitals so they can confirm whether you are a suitable candidate for this trial.
Once the trial is completed the results will be made public.
Please be aware if you do require any medical advice or information about the trial then this should be sought either through your GP or, if you are already under a hospital, a clinical member of the team. The EASY-AS trial team are not medically trained and so can offer no advice about your health or your suitability for the trial.
Here is a video that explains the trial and what it entails. This is available in several languages so please select your preference:
Below are two videos that were made by the BHF that show you the two surgical procedures that can be provided when having an Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR). The first video is a surgical AVR. Due to the surgical content of this video it is age restricted so please click "Watch on YouTube" to see this video. The second is a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Implantation (TAVI).
Below is an article that was published by the BHF in October 2019. By clicking on the picture below you will be directed to their website. Here you will find some additional links, provided by the BHF, to other similar articles and other areas of research in heart valve disease in which you may be interested.
The map shows all those sites either active on the EASY-AS trial or have expressed an interest in joining the trial. If you are thinking of participating then use the map to see if your preferred hospital is taking part and if not there maybe another site nearby that is open to this trial.
Below you can access the clinical publications/articles for patients and the public related to the EASY-AS trial in Australia.
These are the documents that will be given to potential participants as well as the forms that will need to be completed if it is decided to go ahead and join the EASY-AS trial. These documents are provided for information only and should not be used for any other purpose.
Participant Information Sheet (PIS) - This is a full explanation of the trial and what is expected for any potential candidate. They should have at least 24 hours to consider participation with this information. Any questions that arise should be directed towards the clinical teams. A decision about whether to participate or not should only be taken once a full understanding of the trial and the obligations are clear.
Participant Information Leaflet (PIL) - This is a summary version of the PIS. The use of this form is entirely optional. It is intended to make people aware that their is a trial going on in this research area and provides some information so should someone become eligible, they will already have some understanding of this trial and it involvement. It is not an alternative to the PIS.
Consent Form - If the eligibility criteria is confirmed by the clinical team and all the information has all been read and clearly understood, this form will need to be signed to confirm participation in the trial.
Infographic - This is a sheet consisting of some common questions as well as links to a couple of the videos that can also be seen on this website.
