Training and Development Opportunities
There is a wide range of training opportunities for GPs and the wider multi-disciplinary team that delivers primary care services.
Early Career Research in Primary Care
University of Exeter APEX: The Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care (APEx) is a multidisciplinary team within the College of Medicine and Health. It has strong partnerships with schools of primary care across the country, the NHS and NIHR.
Primary Care Academic Collaborative (PACT) is a UK-wide network of enthusiastic primary care health professionals that collectively design and take part in well-designed high impact primary care research and quality improvement projects that seek to improve patient care.
RCGP Research Engagement Hub has been developed by RCGP and the NIHR School of Primary Care Research to highlight the different research career opportunities that are available to the GP community.
NIHR Learn: provides a range of resources to develop the knowledge and skills required for clinical research delivery and to help progress your research career. You will need to create an account with NIHR Learn. Please follow the instructions: click on the link: https://learn.nihr.ac.uk/
NIHR Associate Principal Investigator Scheme The Associate PI Scheme is a six month in-work training opportunity, providing practical experience for healthcare professionals starting their research career. People who would not normally have the opportunity to take part in clinical research in their day to day role have the chance to experience what it means to work on and deliver a NIHR portfolio trial under the mentorship of an enthusiastic local Principal Investigator (PI). Participating healthcare professionals receive formal recognition of engagement in NIHR Portfolio research studies through the certification of Associate PI status, endorsed by the NIHR and Royal Colleges.
The Society for Academic Primary Care provides a clear voice, and a strong presence, for academic primary care in the complex and ever-changing primary care environment. It offers a point of reference and contact for those seeking academic solutions to the problems they face in the provision and study of primary care, and the advancement of academic primary care for the public benefit.
Wise GP is a joint initiative between the Society of Academic Primary Care and the Royal College of General Practitioners and provides a range of resources to support the development of academic skills needed to support evidence based practice.
