Each NHS Trust taking part in the study has a dedicated research midwife or obstetrician who is the local study lead (the "Principal Investigator") for INGR1D2. Here is your chance to meet them - and feel free to say "hi" to them if you happen to see them on the ward!
I am a research nurse and research midwife with over 20 years NHS experience. My substantive role is Lead Midwife at the NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria. I am currently enjoying a secondment as Matron within the Directorate of Clinical Research at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS FoundationTrust. I provide leadership and managerial support to over 350 staff members across a breadth of disciplines. I have been described as an authentic, supportive leader with an emotionally intelligent style and a good sense of humour by my colleagues
I am interested in the support and development of our diverse workforce who are pursuing careers across the whole of the clinical research delivery landscape.
I qualified as a midwife in 2009 and starting working in research at Gateshead maternity in 2015. I love my job and feel passionate about research. I received NIHR sponsorship to complete my Clinical Research Masters at Newcastle University and I graduated in 2021. I have had the opportunity to be PI on several trials now and I am looking forward to contributing to this incredibly important trial at Gateshead Health NHS FT.
I started my nursing and midwifery career in 1979 so many years ago! As a midwife I’ve worked in all areas and experienced many changes and improvements to the care we give women. My interest in research began with an introductory course in 1993. I had a dual role in research from 2015 as a research midwife in Sunderland and the NIHR Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria to provide leadership, providing critical core support for studies and staff, and creating links between partner organisations. After retiring 2 years ago, I now work as a research midwife.
I qualified as a Midwife in 2019 at County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust and have experience in both acute and community roles. I have always had an interest in research and I am passionate about not only improving our practice and care, but also the experience of those using our services. In 2023 after a 6 month secondment as Research Midwife I successfully secured a position which means I work both clinically and as Research Midwife for UHND. Having been involved in recruiting for INGR1D2 I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to be Principal Investigator for our site.
I am the lead research midwife at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. I qualified as a midwife in 2006 and worked clinically for 12 years before moving across to research 6 years ago as my main role.
I am a midwife with over 10 years’ experience in all areas of maternity care. In 2019 I joined Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust as a midwife and in 2021 joined the clinical research team. I am passionate about research, quality improvement and the role of audits in improving outcomes for women and babies. Over the past 2 years, I have been involved in the development and delivery of a varied maternity research portfolio at NHCT and have worked hard to embed a research active culture within the dept. I have also recently completed a PG Cert in Research Delivery at Newcastle University. I was delighted to have the opportunity to be Principal Investigator for INGR1D2 and deliver this important study at NHCT.

I qualified as a nurse in 1987 and became a midwife in 1991 working clinically for over 20 years. I have always been interested in improving practice and care. In 2007, I started a dual role as clinical and research & development midwife and in 2015 moved into clinical research full-time as a research team leader working across multiple specialities and as a research midwife work on reproductive health and childbirth studies at Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.
I am a Research Midwife working at The Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. My background is neonatal care, where I worked as a neonatal and obstetric nurse before I completed my Midwifery Degree at City University London. I worked as a clinical midwife for over ten years before specialising in clinical research.
My passion is to support and advocate women throughout pregnancy and postpartum period. I am particularly interested in antenatal screening and education. I hope to continue developing ways to provide the information, care and support that mothers and infants need during pregnancy and over the first years of babies’ lives.
I have been working as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Peterborough City Hospital for over 10 years. During this time, I have been privileged to serve as the Safety Lead for Maternity, dedicating the past decade to the development and implementation of safety and research projects aimed at enhancing outcomes in maternity care. At North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT), our maternity projects have been recognized for their innovation and impact, receiving nominations for the prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards. In 2023, we proudly won the Digital Clinical Safety Award for our digital early warning tool, an initiative designed to reduce stillbirths and prevent brain injuries, showcasing our commitment to advancing clinical safety through technology.
Over the years, I have cultivated a strong interest in exploring the critical role of research in improving safety and clinical outcomes, both in the delivery suite and across the broader maternity care team. My work is driven by a passion for ensuring the mothers and their babies, guided by evidence-based practices and innovative solutions
I am a Consultant Midwife at the James Paget University Hospital and have been a midwife for over ten years. I have been in my current post for the last year and during that time have completed a Masters module in research and supported the development of midwifery research activity within my Trust, as well as continuing to collaborate with regional colleagues as a member of the steering group for the East of England Midwifery Research Network. I am also an Associate Trainer for Birthrights, a role which allows me to support units across the UK to learn about protecting and promoting human rights within maternity care. It is a privilege to be in the Principal Investigator role for INGR1D2.
Since taking on the research midwife post back in 2021 I have supported several reproductive health and childbirth research studies recruiting in our region. I am passionate about the importance of giving our patients the opportunity to take part in research that guides evidence- based practice and shapes the future of maternity services. I combine this role whilst working as a lecturer at the University of Suffolk developing the next generation of midwives coming through.
I have been working as a Consultant in Obstetrics and fetal medicine at Ipswich Hospital since 2015. I completed my Obstetrics and Fetal medicine specialist training in West Midlands deanery. My areas of interest include management of fetal growth restriction, placental problems, prevention of preterm birth and multiple pregnancy.
I have been the PI at the Ipswich site for the following studies – TRUFFLE-2, Sonobreech, Ingr1d, Ophelia, Pitches.
I have worked as a Research Midwife for more than 8 years where I have developed our Midwifery portfolio obtaining varied experience across many different studies. I am the Principal Investigator for the Ingr1d2 study and have a keen interest in advocating for women and providing opportunities for antenatal and postnatal screening.
