This is a free add-on to Basic Training for those who wish to use the BD analysers. It is run monthly, usually Tuesday in the week after Basic Training. If you are already familiar with flow cytometry or if you know your first-choice instrument will be the Fortessa or Symphony (perhaps for compatibility with your research group or a specific project), you can join the first available session. Anyone else can take the top-up training in any month of their choice with no rush, allowing you to get comfortable with the technique first. You'll be given instructions for applying for Fortessa training during Basic training, or existing users can email us for the booking link.
This module is online-only via Teams so there is no limit on number of attendees, you will be given a place when you need one.
Mandatory for using the Amnis ImageStream MKII. Four-hour session covering the ImageStream technology, including considerations for compensation, panel design and sample preparation, where they differ from traditional flow cytometry, followed by a practical hands on training session on the instrument and first tips on data analysis. For internal users only, prerequisites: Basic Training. It is essential that users have a good grasp of basic flow cytometry before attending this training course, basics will not be covered in this class. Two hour training covering the theory of a Luminex assay and detailed instructions on instrument setup and calibration, and tips for sample acquisition/ data analysis. If you have specific questions about your Luminex assay or what type of kit is required (e.g. we only advise magnetic beads) please book a consultation session by emailing us. No prerequisites except registration, but we highly recommend that you already have your kit before attending so you can bring the instructions. After being given a place please go to ‘request services’ in iLab, choose ‘5.3 Luminex Training’ and submit.

The training is aimed at both users with no or very limited prior FlowJo knowledge and those that know their way around the software but have advanced analysis requirements (large file numbers, complex multicolour panels or special applications. All will benefit from learning tricks and how to use the software more effectively. Users will be provided with example data for analysis. Training is done on FlowJo v10 (until version 11 has the same feature set as version 10 currently does), but the theory of data analysis techniques will be applicable to other versions and software.
At the end of this course users will be able to import raw flow cytometry data into FlowJo from any platform, annotate and organise files to aid basic analysis, use keywords for organising, analyse and batch medium to large data sets, carry out post-acquisition compensation, generate a statistical and graphical report of the experiment, analyse data from special applications such as proliferation and cell cycle, and generate and understand a spreading matrix.
After being given a place please go to ‘request services’, in iLab choose ‘5.4 FlowJo training’ and submit. This one-day course is open to internal and external customers. External customers must provide a purchase order number covering the course fee in advance. Each course day can accommodate up to eight trainees.
Users will be asked to pick one of two consecutive days for training. According to demand, both or only one day will run. We will get in touch to confirm your training slot.
