Patient Research Experience Survey

The Clinical Research Network (CRN) East Midlands works in partnership with organisations across the region to deliver the Patient Research Experience Survey (PRES) so that we can learn more about what taking part in research is like for participants, and act on their suggestions to improve research.

We deliver PRES in partnership with NHS Trusts, GP practices and hospices. Our partners are able to use PRES to find out more about who is taking part in research, their motivations for getting involved, their experience and how it compares to participants at other organisations, and their ideas for changes to make research even better.

The data obtained from responses is published in real-time so that people considering taking part in research are able to learn more about what they can expect from their experience, and in order to allow organisations to act on improvement proposals put forward by participants as quickly as possible.

At the end of each year, we work with partners to analyse the data, compare it to a regional benchmark, and implement ideas put forward by research participants so that we can continually improve the research process.

During 2018/19, we carried out a PRES pilot in partnership with two NHS Trusts - Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Following the pilot, we have significantly increased the scope of PRES across the East Midlands and are working to ensure that as many research participants as possible are given the opportunity to feedback on their experience.

Here are some of the quick highlights from our 2018/19 PRES pilot:
