About the RDN Public Involvement Toolkit
The RDN Public Involvement Toolkit has been developed to provide the RDNCC and RRDNs with easy access to high-quality, reliable information and tools to support proposed public involvement and engagement activities.
The toolkits and checklists provide key information and links that are needed for the most common types of public involvement activities. They are not exhaustive and only intended to act as guidance. Please be aware that throughout this toolkit there will be links to external and NIHR-based resources. We cannot be held responsible for any external content, updates or accessibility issues. If you discover that any links or resources do not work or are out of date, please contact the RDNCC PPIE Team.
How to use the RDN Public Involvement Toolkit
The Public Involvement and Engagement Self-Assessment Tool is a Google form and should be used together with this resource. The self-assessment tool will take you through a number of initial questions and advise you on which toolkit best suits your needs. However, please remember that you may need to access more than one toolkit to find the information you need due to public partners often having a wide range of lived experiences and expertise and activities needing to be bespoke to your project/ programme.
The self-assessment tool to help support you in identifying what type of public partner might be best placed to help you. The tool also provides basic considerations that need to be in place before you can seek to recruit members of the public.
If you are new to PPIE, the link to your left will guide you to a 'getting started' resource that will explain the terms, methods and considerations that you need to be aware of before engaging and involving public partners.
The role of the RDNCC PPIE Team
The RDNCC PPIE Team can provide strategic-level support and expertise to colleagues from across the NIHR, RDN and external stakeholders. Our team has a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to support teams. We are passionate about creating opportunities for public partners that are appropriate, inclusive, considerate of their needs and meaningful. We fully advocate for early engagement and involvement throughout the entire project, with feedback about how the public has had an input and the outcome of the activity as a mandatory requirement.
We cannot undertake PPIE activities on your behalf or manage payments relating to your activities (unless an exception has been agreed). We can share and advertise opportunities for involvement and engagement across our networks and partners. We do not have direct access to members of the public unless it involves the RDN Strategic PPI Group membership. For further guidance and support, please contact the RDNCC Public Partnerships Team.
