Postgraduate Certificates 


An overview of the Postgraduate Certificate courses is provided below.  The courses run annually and start in September/October of each year.

Newcastle University

Learners complete three compulsory modules:

University of Exeter

Learners complete three compulsory modules and one optional module:

Master’s Extension Pathways

Learners who have successfully completed the Framework’s Postgraduate Certificate can join the Framework’s Master’s extension pathways at any of the higher education institutions offering courses aligned with the Framework. 

Learners who have successfully completed other Postgraduate Certificates related to clinical research or who have equivalent, evidenced work-based experiential learning may also be able to undertake the Master’s extension pathways without completing the Framework’s Postgraduate Certificate.  This should be discussed with the higher education institution where you want to study.

An overview of the Master’s programmes aligned with the Framework is provided below. The Master’s programmes include a Postgraduate Diploma exit award option. The courses run annually and start in September/October each year.

King's College London


At Postgraduate Diploma level, learners complete one compulsory module and two optional modules:


For the optional modules, learners can study modules in Clinical Trials, Social Research Methods, Health Economics and Clinical Leadership, in addition to a wider range of relevant options across King’s Health Faculties.


At Master of Science level, learners complete a 60 credit dissertation.

University of Exeter


At Postgraduate Diploma level, learners complete one compulsory module and two optional modules:


For the optional modules, learners can study modules from the Leadership, Research Methodology, Genomic Medicine and Public Health specialisms. 


At Master of Science level, learners complete a 60 credit independent research project.

University of Sheffield
