On Friday, April 12th, ICL students participated in a Facing History and Ourselves event at Facebook headquarters.
Our students, working with other Facing History and Ourselves students from around the Bay Area, participated in an event called Hackathon. Students were asked to create new technology that could help with social justice issues including bullying, developing empathy, and gentrification. The students invented apps, websites, and wearable tech and presented it to Facebook employees for feedback. It was an amazing experience!
ICL Students attended the annual Facing History and Ourselves Gala at the San Francisco Hyatt Regency. Students acted as ambassadors for the Facing History Program, worked as ushers at the event, and spoke with potential donors about the benefits of the program. As a bonus, students attended the dinner afterwards, and heard from Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farmworkers Union with Cesar Chavez!
