This election was such a turn of events that I felt so stressed out throughout the duration of it. I recall feeling defeated the first night since the republicans had such a big lead, but after the mail-ins were starting to come in, I felt more relieved with the amount of states that turned blue. Though Joe Biden wouldn't be the first candidate I would've voted for if I was able to vote, I know how important it was to settle for him and Kamala Harris.
The morning the election was called, I was asleep. It wasn't until I unlocked my phone and while looking through the notifications, it was my friends talking and messaging about in Discord that Biden had won. I woke up extremely merrier that morning and was so relieved that Trump would finally be out of office. Biden and Harris aren't perfect politicians, however they are the only choice on the ballot that is capable of beating Trump. I felt at ease seeing people on the same boat as me, and pushed for holding the two accountable for their actions. Personally, I think that Biden and Harris were suitable winners for this election because this would mean that a lot of things would change for the better, and there's a little bit of representation in the White House.
In regards to the California propositions, I feel kind of disappointed with the state. As progressive as the state is, when it comes to money and finance, that's when a lot of selfishness is brought out. Personally, I can't wholeheartedly speak out on the propositions regarding taxes and property tax because quite frankly, I don't know a lot on the topic of taxes, however with Proposition 25, everyone voted against replacing the cash bail system with something else. The cash bail system has only benefited those with high income and has worked against low income families and communities of color. Another result of a proposition that I was disappointed about was Proposition 18. This prop allowed 17 year olds who were going to be turning 18 within 6 months of the general election to vote in the primaries. It would have allowed 17 year olds to begin their practice of exercising their voice to advocate and elect candidates they would like to represent them.
