The chapel is located just across from the Memorial Walkway entrance.
Look carefully at the details of the paintings in the chapel and you will see many key representations of New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery Chapel is a thoughtfully designed structure that honors the service and sacrifice of veterans. Its architecture and artwork combine to create a space that is both solemn and inspiring.
Architectural Features:
Timber Trusses & Granite Columns: Exposed timber trusses and monumental columns echo the tradition of Gothic cathedrals, embodying strength and reverence. The columns are more than structural—they symbolize the enduring contributions of veterans to our nation.
New Hampshire Granite: Locally quarried granite anchors the building, reinforcing permanence, resilience, and the deep ties between the chapel and the land it stands on.
Glass Curtain Wall: Transparency connects the interior ceremonies with the serene cemetery landscape.
Artistic Centerpiece:
A mural by artist Sheldon Cassady, titled “5 Branches of Military with Landscape Mural”, transforms the chapel interior into a powerful visual tribute.
Commissioned as a “Special Project” by the Department of New Hampshire Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the mural was funded as a gift of honor to enhance the chapel’s sacred role.
Spanning up to 27 feet by 30 feet, this oil-on-canvas and wall installation celebrates each branch of the armed forces within a NH landscape of remembrance.
Together, the chapel’s architectural symbolism and its vibrant mural establish it as a lasting tribute to veterans—a place of reflection, ceremony, and honor. - Source: Senators David Currier & Jack Barnes
