Chapel
The chapel is located just across from the Memorial Walkway entrance.
The Chapel is a thoughtfully designed structure meant to convey its significance both externally and internally. The exposed large timber trusses, prominently visible from the outside, are mirrored within the interior, creating a modest yet dynamic space that evokes the architectural spirit of great Gothic cathedrals. These trusses are supported by substantial monolithic columns, which not only fulfill the functional purpose of roof support but also symbolize the enduring strength and contributions of veterans to the armed services and the nation.
The chapel's enclosure features a transparent glass curtain wall, fostering a seamless interaction between the interior and exterior spaces. Native New Hampshire granite is used to anchor the structure, providing strength and visual grounding. This granite is integrated into the landscape as walls defining the rear courtyard and front entrance promenade. Rising from the ground, the granite reinforces the structural integrity of the building by buttressing its corners, further emphasizing the chapel's sense of permanence and resilience.
Designed to accommodate approximately 70 people with non-fixed seating, the Chapel also offers flexibility for larger gatherings. The rear glass curtain wall can fold away, allowing additional attendees to participate from the rear courtyard. Inside, two ancillary rooms provide space for viewing and temporary storage to support multiple funerals when needed. - Source: Senators David Currier & Jack Barnes
Look carefully at the details of the paintings in the chapel and you will see many key representations of New Hampshire.
