The Rosen Publishing Northern New England School Librarian of the Month is a new award that recognizes Maine Association of School Librarians (MASL), New Hampshire School Library Section of the NHLA (NHSLS), and Vermont School Library Association (VSLA) members who provide outstanding service to their school community or to the broader school library community.

Established in 1950, the Rosen Publishing Group offers engaging print and digital books on a wide range of topics that are aligned with the curriculum. Rosen is also known for databases and interactive e-books.

Sam Dixon - Bow High School

We recognize Sam for The Work Room in the Bow Learning Commons. Here students can use a sewing machine, a 3D printer, a Cricut, find game supplies, and much more. The description on the school website says it best: The Work Room is a space dedicated to creation and getting stuff done. We have all sorts of resources here that you might find helpful. We’ve got it all, including the kitchen sink! If we don’t have it, let us know. We’ll look into it.

Sam has always been generous with his time and expertise. Over the years he has brought his 3D printer, Cricut and other devices to statewide conferences, letting others try them out and ask questions about their uses in school libraries. Additionally, Sam has presented about podcasting and the value of graphic novels at conferences. Sam is also a valuable resource for schools looking to establish an esports team.

Heather Levasseur - Henry W. Moore School

September 2024

For the past several years, Heather has worked with our board to provide professional development opportunities for NH school librarians. In the summer of 2023, Heather was one of the facilitators of NHSLMA’s summer Library Camp PD opportunity. This past spring Heather was instrumental in putting together the elementary author panels at our annual conference. Heather's passion, organizational skills and commitment to providing NH school librarians with meaningful PD is commendable.

Amy O'Riley - Mountain View Middle School

Amy’s presentation SPARK LITERACY! With Ready to Go & Easy Ideas to Facilitate at the spring NH School Library Media Association conference received glowing reviews from attendees, with several stating it was their favorite part of the conference. Amy’s session shared various ways to spark interest in reading by hosting literacy events, stations activities for classes, and themed contests.

Amy has long been a valued member of the NH School Library Media Association community who frequently shares her knowledge through conference presentations and provides support and advice to members via our listserv.

Beth's nominator shared: She is an exceptional communicator and researcher, as well as a passionate and thoughtful librarian and educator. She cares so much for her students and understands that by highlighting nonfiction and providing high-quality library services, she is able to create a more equitable learning environment for all students in her community.
