Congrats to Coach Gale - 2023 SCC Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year
Congrats to Anna Omelchenko - 2023 SCC Runner of the Year, All-New England Runner!
New England Results:
Anna Omelchenko got 24th out of 251 runners, earning an All-New England medal and repping CT (1 of the top 8 in the top 25!!)!!!
State Opens Results:
Anna Omelchenko got 8th overall, qualifying for New Englands this weekend in Maine, running a 19:04 for the 5k course, running so well!!! Grayson Neuman placed 27th overall, running a personal best of 19:57 over Wickham Park. The rest of the girls all ran their best times this day as well, Ambar Santiago, Mila Myklebust, Ila Sundstrom, Adalyn Timberlake and Angelise Ramirez!!! The girls team placed 17th overall. Historic. First time we competed as a team and so proud of them.
Sebastian Halpern ran a 16:57, achieving his goal of breaking 17 minutes, so proud of this junior and really excited for the remainder of the year as well as his senior season. He also placed in the top 50, which is also great!
Historic News:
It is my pleasure to announce our girl's cross country team will be heading as a group/team of 7 to the State Open being held on Monday at Wickham Park! This is a first, in the history of Wilbur Cross, yes we have sent amazing individuals but not a team of 7!!!!
Shout out to:
Anna Omelchenko
Grayson Neuman
Ambar Santiago
Mila Myklebust
Adalyn Timberlake
Ila Sundstrom
Angelise Ramirez
Also, Sebastian Halpern qualified as an individual, keeping his postseason alive, so proud of him and his work ethic!!!
SCC News:
Our very own, ANNA OMELCHENKO is the 2023 SCC Individual CHAMPION!!! She ran a season best of 18:52, started out with 2 other girls, mile 2, dropped them, and took home WC first ever, an individual champion for this specific race! Awesome.
Grayson Neuman, only a junior, knew she wanted to be in the top 8, SHE FINISHED FOURTH OVERALL!!!! Behind the 3 seniors, she ran a great race, so pumped for her.
That puts Anna and Grayson in the First Team All-Conference group, so congrats to them. The girl's team overall, Mila Mikleust, Ambar Santiago (ESUMS), Adalyn Timberlake (Co-Op), and Ila Sundstrom placed 4th overall as a team (goal was top 5!)!!!
Our JV girls ran great as well, with a bunch of personal bests, for yesterday was their last race, so the work they put in all season they brought to the line and ran their best race(s)!!!
On the boy's side, Sebastian Halpern, a junior placed 8th overall, running a strategic race with the front pack, looked great, also earning him First Team All-Conference honors!!! So pumped for him, really looking forward to his future, and just proud of him.
The boy's team, which is comprised of the following varsity members: Chris Ramirez, Adrian Zavala, Ismael Perez, Julian Theodore, Giovanni Gonzalez, and Vikram Dalal all ran well, the field was very tough if you know the park (East Shore), it is flat and fast!
Our boys JV, the last race of the day (we were in 5 out of 6 races...), lots of cheering, they did not disappoint, all of them ran their fastest races all season, and super proud of them!!!
Moving on, we will have the Class LL State Championship, on October 28th at Wickham Park in Manchester, I will share the results with you after.
Final two things, ANNA OMELCHENKO got RUNNER OF THE YEAR for our conference and my peers/other coaches voted for Coach Gale, for Coach of the Year. It is an honor to coach and give emotion to what we do and it was a very nice gesture of the conference, the student-athletes of this program work really hard and I am grateful.
