Navigating Advanced Placement (AP) courses can be complex. Here is everything you need to know about policies, deadlines, and requirements at Wilbur Cross.
Where can I find official College Board policies?
You can view the full list of Exam Policies and Guidelines on the College Board website. For course-specific information, visit your AP Course Homepage.
Do I need a College Board account?
Yes. If you have previously taken the PSAT or SAT, you already have one.
Important: Use a personal email address (e.g., Gmail or Outlook). Do not use your school "student ID@nhps.net" account, as you may lose access to it after graduation.
Am I required to take the AP Exam?
Yes. Students enrolled in an AP course at Wilbur Cross are required to sit for the corresponding AP exam.
What happens if I donβt take the exam?
Failure to take the exam results in two consequences:
You will be charged an unused exam fee ($40).
The "AP" designation and the associated GPA boost will be removed from your transcript, and you will receive Honors credit instead.
NHPS Add/Drop and AP Classroom Registration and NHPS Contract - October 1st
AP Classroom Exam Registration Deadline - November 15th
AP Classroom Course Drop Deadline - March 15th (with a $40 fee)
Note on Withdrawals: If you drop a course after November 15th, a "W" will appear on your transcript. Additionally, because exams are ordered in November, you will be responsible for the unused exam fee ($40).
What if I want to take an AP exam for a course not offered at Wilbur Cross?
Wilbur Cross does not host exams for courses we do not teach. You may search the AP Ledger to find schools that offer the course. You must contact that school's AP Coordinator directly to ask if they can accommodate an outside tester. Wilbur Cross cannot assist with this process.
I am a transfer student already taking an AP course. Can I continue it here?
If Cross offers the course: You may enroll if there is space (class cap is 27). See Mr. Grindrod to assist with the AP Classroom transfer.
If Cross does NOT offer the course: Per College Board rules, you cannot take the course or exam here because we lack an approved "teacher of record." You will need to find a testing site via the AP Ledger.
Can I join an AP class if I didn't see it on my initial schedule?
Enrollment depends on:
Available space (under the 27-student limit).
Scheduling conflicts with graduation requirements.
Course load limits for your grade level.
Is summer work mandatory?
No. Summer work is for enrichment and skill-building only. While it is not graded or required, completing it is highly recommended to provide you with the necessary background knowledge to succeed in the course.
We want to keep our families informed. If you have a question not covered here, please email Mr. Grindrod at brian.grindrod@new-haven.k12.ct.us.
