BARNARD DRESS CODE – Green, White or Blue Shirt and Khaki Pants

School Uniforms

As we continue to establish excellence as a school, uniforms play an important part in the  process. Green or White top and khaki bottoms is our school uniform. We will also have Barnard Spirit wear  students can wear. Students are expected to wear school uniforms daily, any non-uniform/spirit  days will be announced in advance. If you need support with this please contact the school.

If you do not wear a uniform you must adhere to the dress code policy. Our dress code standards are intentionally  conservative, in order to help students focus on learning. All clothing must be neat in appearance, in good repair, and  worn appropriately. The fit and/or style of the clothing should not be tight, revealing, or oversized. When it is determined  that a student’s clothing does not comply with the dress code, a parent/guardian may be asked to bring an appropriate  change of clothes to school. If the violation of dress code cannot be rectified, the student will be sent to in-school suspension. The student may also receive a disciplinary consequence for violating the school’s dress code policy,  especially if this becomes chronic. The administration reserves the right to determine the suitability of questionable styles  or accessories. Students will be required to correct uniform violations before attending classes. The following should  answer all questions.

Failure to comply with the dress code guidelines is considered to be an insubordinate act and will be treated as such. The  following steps will be taken when a student violates the dress code:

NO sleeveless or spaghetti strap tank top shirts or, No low-cut or crop tops shirts, and NO ripped pants.

HEADWEAR: No hats, bandanas, sweatbands, or sunglasses will be worn in the building except for medical or  religious reasons.

OTHER: Pants cannot hang below the waist. Shirts must cover the chest, back and stomach areas. The test for  appropriate skirt and short lengths is to stand with arms down at one’s side. The garment must be below the  fingertips. Students may wear hoodies however they may NOT wear the hood up on their head during school  hours.

SPECIAL DRESS: Barnard will have special dress day/special dress occasions for students at the discretion of  the school administration (examples: Hat Day, Twin Day, etc.). You will be notified of these occasions via  Parent link and/or note home.

SPECIAL SITUATIONS: If a student cannot comply with the standardized dress code based on religious  beliefs, his/her parent or guardian may write a letter explaining the situation to the school principal or the  Principal may allow the student to call a guardian to bring him or her clothes to school. Each case will be  handled on an individual basis.
