Common Paths

An initiative brought to you by the Christopher Albert and Georgii Larkov, student leaders within Common Ground Community, in conjunction with Alder Honda Smith, Common Ground staff and students, and neighboring allies in the West Rock Neighborhoods

Pathways Presentation

The interactive map below details our initial proposal for the revival and re-connection of the West Rock neighborhoods and institution of much needed safe pedestrian access to Job Corps, Common Ground, the Brennan Rogers elementary school, seniors and families living in Elm City Community developments, Southern Connecticut State University, and numerous other communities and organizations.

In our proposal we request:

  1. A sidewalk (ideally permeable!) connecting Brookside, Wilmot Crossing, and Rockview to Southern Connecticut State University

  2. Much-needed, immediate repairs and upkeep along Wintergreen Avenue, Wilmot Road, Springside Avenue

  3. Ongoing funding to maintain infrastructure, keep sight lines clear, and address illegal dumping (Common Ground can help!)

  4. Crosswalks, speed tables, and clear slow school zone paint and signage to create a safe, low-speed zone around Common Ground's campus (allowing overflow parking along Springside Avenue)

  5. A 3-way traffic light and crosswalks at the Wintergreen/Wilmot intersection

  6. Stop signs at the Wintergreen/Springside Avenue intersection

  7. A school zone and sidewalk from the Common Ground Campus to New Haven Job Corps center

  8. A walking bridge spanning Wintergreen Brook on the north side of the bridge
