Physical Education

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Noble Middle School physical education program is to provide all students with opportunities to improve in the areas of fitness and motor skills while participating in a learning environment built on positive interactions.

GOALS:

Demonstrate motor skills and movement patterns through various activities or games.

Demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies.

Assess and maintain physical fitness levels to improve health and performance.

EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to come to class PREPARED and ready to give their best EFFORT.

Students are expected to encourage each other while displaying acceptance and cooperation for individual differences.

* Unsportsmanlike behavior or disrespect towards others is never tolerated *

Students are expected to follow all school rules in addition to instructions given by teachers.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Athletic shoes that are properly laced and socks. (slip-ons, boat shoes, sandals, etc. are not allowed)

** For the safety of all students, jewelry is not permitted during class **

** Only headgear that is religious in nature will be allowed. No wraps, scarves, rags, hats etc.**

PARTICIPATION / GRADING

Students have the opportunity to earn 5 points each day, based on the following:

- Proper footwear/shoes (1 point)

- Display positive sportsmanship, character, and attitude (1 point)

- Engaged participation during all stretches, cardio, and learning activities (3 points)

In addition to daily grades, students will be assessed on skills and knowledge through various methods (rubrics, demonstration, quizzes, exit slips, etc.)

ABSENCES / MEDICAL NOTES

Teachers will excuse up to 3 absences per grading period.

If a student misses class more than 3 times, they are expected to make up content either by scheduling time after school or by completing an assignment related to class topic.

Work not made up will be counted the same as not participating (0).

If a student needs to be excused from class activity then a medical note (parent or doctor) must be provided with the following information:

1. Why is the student missing class? (Diagnosis)

2. What limitations does the student have? (ex. no running)

3. How long will student need to be excused?

4. Must include date, contact info, and signature of parent or doctor.

* Parent notes are only valid for the current day

* Only 2 parent notes will be accepted in each grading period

*Students sitting out with a note will be given an alternate assignment to complete

CELL PHONE POLICY

Cell phones are not allowed in class (unless teacher has given specific permission)

Students should secure their phones in the school locker or in a separate class room.

This will allow students to fully engage in class activities as well as preventing unwanted damage to devices (students dropping them, falling on them, objects hitting them, etc.)

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Students not meeting the expectations of proper school conduct will receive the following consequences:

1. 1st step (warning)

2. 2nd step (consequence)

3. 3rd step (phone call home)

4. 4th step (referral to office - ISS)

CLASS RULES:

1. Be respectful, always!

* Talking back, being rude to others, rolling eyes are examples of not being respectful*

2. Be in the right spot, at the right time.

*Unexcused tardy, not in correct seat, not in locker room, etc*

3. NO food, drink, gum, candy allowed.
