Beginning Band 6 (Year-Long)
This course in instrumental music is for the beginning band student. No prior experience on a musical instrument is necessary. Instruments must be furnished by the student. Students may choose an instrument from the following list: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion. Students enrolled in this class will be expected to participate in some out-of-class performances when given adequate notice.
The focus areas for learning at the beginning instrumental level include:
Demonstrating appropriate expressive and technical instrumental practices
Demonstrating pitch and rhythmic accuracy
Reading and notating rhythmic and melodic patterns
Improvising, composing and arranging music
Listening to, analyzing, and evaluating music
Identifying and applying traditional symbols and terms as well as using
appropriate technology
Developing an understanding of music in relation to history, culture, & other content areas
In addition, the student will play music at the appropriate level of difficulty with expressiveness and technical accuracy. The student will also play music written in easy keys, meters, and rhythms in limited ranges.
Beginning Orchestra 6 (Year-Long)
This instrumental music course is designed for students beginning to play the violin, viola, cello, or string bass. No prior experience in music reading or playing is necessary. Students must furnish their own instruments. Daily practice outside of class is expected.Student enrolled in this class will be expected to participate in some out-of-class performances when given adequate notice.

Creative Dramatics 6 (Year-Long)
Through the active creation of theatre, students will begin to explore the world of the playwright, actor, designer, and director. While students will experiment with movement, dialogue, and expression, they will also participate in reading, writing, and performing scripts.
According to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, the emphasis in Theatre Arts is on:
Various types of dramatic elements
Functions and responsibilities of actors, designers, directors, playwrights,
and audience
Working collectively in production teams
Acting, improvisation, and characterization
Practicing playwriting
Early theatre history
Chorus 6 (Year-Long)
This course is for students with a special interest in vocal music. Primary emphasis is placed upon the training of the changing voice. The Chorus 6 curriculum will concentrate on voice development, tone quality, singing technique, diction, and music reading. Students will create harmony by singing two-part songs, partner songs, and rounds. They will explore music written in easy keys, meters, and rhythmic in limited ranges. Concerts, choral festivals, and workshops are an important part of the curriculum and students will be expected to participate in some out-of-class performances when given adequate notice.

Showing respect for the efforts of others
Elective Wheel (Year-Long)
The elective wheel allows students to explore Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses and Fine Arts class. Students will have the opportunity to work with selected topics from each course for nine weeks each. The PLTW classes include studies in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
