Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a reading club/competition in which you can elect to participate. You participate in two different ways.  One way is to just read the books on the list.  You can also choose to read and participate in a quiz bowl style competition with other students.  All questions start with the phrase "In which book" and all answers are in the Title/Author format.  

The 2025-2026 BOB list was created by some really cool librarians around the state of North Carolina.  It includes books from every genre, so there is something for everyone!  It is a great way to find books to read that you may ordinarily overlook.  Middle school students from around the state read the books on the list, and then compete in competitions to determine who is the best in the state.  

In order to participate in Battle of the Books, students must have parent permission. 

...mandatory.  You choose to be here because you love to read!  You will not be required to do anymore than that.  However, if you are competitive, and serious about winning, you may want to test your knowledge and recall of some of your favorite books on the list.  

1. Start reading books from the list!  

NC Digital Library has all the titles in eBook or Audiobook.  They are popular, so get on the waiting list NOW.  You can access these books using the New Hanover County Library subscription.  Use your student ID number as your library card to place holds and check out.  We also have multiple copies of the books in the Media Center.

2. Submit your parent permission slip to join the Battle of the Books Friday Extracurricular Group.
