Classroom Guidance
I visit 4th and 5th grade classrooms (classroom guidance) on a weekly basis and visit other grade levels by teacher request to teach whole group lessons on either a particular focus or theme, and/or on topics by teacher request. These lessons will be geared towards social and emotional learning, academic success, and career exploration.
I work with students on a short-term basis individually when they are dealing with certain issues or challenges such as anxiety, stress, managing anger, grief, family changes, friendship, etc. Students can be referred by teachers, parents, or they can advocate for themselves that they need to see the counselor! All information remains confidential between the student and I unless the student has threatened harm to themselves, others, or if statements are made about abuse or neglect. If you'd like to refer your child for short-term individual counseling, please contact me email or phone.
I conduct small groups throughout the year on different topics. Some examples of these topics could be family changes, making good choices, social skills, developing coping skills for self-regulation, making and keeping friends, self-esteem building, student success strategies, etc. Students learn skills that they can take back to the classroom and home. If the counselor identifies any student(s) who would benefit from a small-group, a permission slip along with the group details will be sent home before the student will be added to the group.
