Course Objective: Students will gain an understanding of Early Civilization to the Age of Exploration.
Syllabus: The following topics will be covered in class this year:
· What is Social Studies?
· River Valley Civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt, and India
· Classical Civilizations: Greece, Rome, and Dynastic China
· Early American Societies: Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs
Expectations: Students are expected to do the following:
· Actively participate in class.
· Bring all materials to class each day.
· To take notes and bring them to class daily.
· To complete all class work.
· To complete all homework and turn it in on time.
· Follow the 4 R’s: Respectful, Resourceful, Receptive and Responsible
Please ask your child about these expectations and talk to them about what is acceptable and not acceptable. The 4 R’s are a school wide expectation.
Grading Policy: All students will be on a 10 point scale. See below. Each student’s grade will be based on the following:
· Grades/Grading Grading Scale
· Class work *90-100 =A
· Homework *80-89 =B
· Projects * 70-79 =C
· Quizzes *60-69 =D
· Tests *Below 59 =F
· Participation and warm-ups
Student grading will be based on total points. See below for an example.
· Test possible points 100. Student earned 90 points.
· Warm-up possible points 10. Student earned 10 points.
· Class work possible points 50. Student earned 45 points.
