My name is Dorian Barnes and I am so excited to be our school's Instructional Coach. My role is to work as a colleague alongside classroom teachers to support student learning in all content areas. I focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of research-based effective instruction. I also provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers in support of the school improvement plan.
About me: I grew up in Dudley near Goldsboro, NC and moved to Wilmington in 2001 to attend college and never left. My husband Jason and I have two beautiful boys named Hayden (8) and Weston (6) .
I graduated from UNCW with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Literacy Education. I have my National Board Certification. I am also a certified School Administrator. I have been a teacher for 18 years in K-5 and served as an instructor at UNCW. My passions include Project Based Learning, Inquiry Based Learning, ELA Cooperative Learning Centers, Distributive Leadership, teaching and mentoring people of all ages.
